As we have seen with the 125th Street SBS project, no one can "take the pain" because so many of them seem to find private automobiles so "useful" that we have these situations where nobody wants to give up any of those precious street parking spaces to give [surface] mass transit more of an edge, and double parking on streets where buses run is tolerated far too much.You assume too much. For starters, what makes you think the community board in Harlem and the residents are on the same page? There are many community boards with "busybodies" on them. Apparently, Harlem has a high concentration of them and they are trying to shape the place into the Upper Upper East Side. THIS is what you are seeing. Your jihad on cars completely misses the point here. Identify the problem and then you can propose a solution. So much for democracy, which "cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely," as FDR once said. The nation continues to be a republic and republics by definition care about why the dissenters do not agree. It is better than mob rule. |
