I would stick to being the best train conductor for all three Metro North Lines, your not very good at this anti graffiti crusade thing. The kid who lost his leg is 16 years old, again 16, not and adult. Teenagers get into mischief when they are young. Graffiti is everywhere and is easy to pick up on. Obviously Paul is picking up on it because he even knows who the tags are. In any event at 16 kids are mischievous. Unless you have parents that lock you in a closet.Have you ever thought about blaming the schools and the parenting over a misguided 16 year old.

At the end of the day he wrote his name in paint. Paint does not mug or kill people. It can be washed off. A lot worse things in life to get angry about Paul.

That really depends on the statute of limitations on the trespass charge and the maximum time a notice of a civil suit must be filed. If the statute of limitations is longer, then the TA can just wait for the notice period to expire with the knowledge that such a suit will not be filed.

I agree. What he did was wrong, yes, but teenagers do things that aren't always right. Sometimes they do stupid things. Hell, adults do too. Are some of you all serious that you never did a prank or get into some sort of mischief at all when you were kids?

However wrong he was in allegedly painting on the walls, it is NOT EVER okay to go dancing in the streets over the fact that someone lost his leg over something so stupid (especially getting hit with a third rail show apparently?). His whole life, at the age of 16 changed for the worse, his family's life has changed, and you guys cheer...wow....

He may have learned his lesson in a harsh way, but stop acting as if he was some ax murder or mugging old ladies on the street. Graffiti can be an unpleasant eyesore and most people would rather it not be there, but it's not worth destroying a human life to "prevent it" in my opinion.

This wasn't a bank robbery, it was vandalism. There is a difference between a violent felony and a non-violent misdemeanor.

In any case, the entire point of criminal charges is to prevent crime in general, not to satisfy people's bloodlust and mindless desire for vengeance. He lost a leg, he's not going to do it again. The fact that he lost a leg is going to do more to discourage other people than a fine or a few months of probation would. Therefore, any criminal proceedings against him are unnecessary, cruel, and a waste of money and effort on top of that.

Again, 16 is old enough to know right from wrong!! Yes, we have all gotten into mischief, but not the kind that willfully destroyed people's property. Maybe I was taught respect for others and others belonging from my mom properly as all kids should, not to mention I came from a day when the neighbors were allowed to kick your ass if you were caught being out of line when your parents weren't around!!!!!

As for knowing names, I have read the "Subway Art" book, and I have seen the same names in tunnels, bridges and rights of way from MNR to LIRR to NYCT and thensome. I have seen documentaries about graffiti artists, so yes I know who they are, and yes the same names appear in the "Subway Art" book.

The fact is graffiti is NOT art, it IS a CRIME!! And I think anyone who supports it is just as bad as the criminals, quite possibly even one themselves since they so vocally defend it!! Is there something about you, Mr. Volt, we should know??? Is there a reason you seem to be so vocal about graffiti? Your vocal speak out seems to be more towards support for it.

And yes, disrespect for property, which graffiti is, leads to bigger crimes because if you can not respect someone's property, how truly can you respect SOMEONE???? And not to mention such wanton disrespect for property can even lead to serious crimes, out of defense for the said property by the property owner, being committed against the vandal themselves, having personally seen vandals get beatdown in my day for destroying someone's property, and they were lucky because this was in a day where a beatdown is all you would get!! Nowadays, you could be shot and killed!!

Fact is, this dude was, as I previously stated, old enough to know right from wrong, legality from illegality, and know what inherent dangers just being on train tracks poses, and he risked it all for what??? Props from the homies??? Street value??? A photo to be seen by fellow vandal scum the world over??? Let's see if those same homies are gonna come see him in the hospital!! Let's see if they are gonna be there for him thru therapy for when he has to wear a peg leg for the rest of his life!! Let's see if they are gonna help him down to the tracks the next time he wants to be stupid if he didn't learn his lesson after this!!! Better hope his peg leg isn't made of steel!!! BZAP BZAP!!! He got what he deserved!! Train : 1, Vandal Scum : 0, minus 1 leg!!! Oh well, boo fuckin' hoo, cry me a river!!

No, parents are to blame because they need to be in their teens lives more, be more of a parent instead of trying to be like one of the homies (the boys) or on of the girls (duh, the girls :-D). Know when to be a friend, but also know when to be a parent and law down the law.

As for the schools, the days of teachers caring about the kids has long gone!! Most see it as a paycheck and not as helping "our future". Equal attention should be given to the D kids as much as the A+ kids!! While I fell on the A+ line, at least I came from a day when teachers cared about the kids, concerned about their home life, concerned about who they are seen hanging with, hell I have seen some teachers take more a role in some kids lives more than their own parents have. Having been a student of the NYC Board Of Education school system, you will be surprised how much I have seen in my school days.

So yes, school and home do play a lot in the progress and actions of a teen and any child.

Paul where am I vocal or advocating anything graffiti anywhere? Please learn how to read before making ass-umptions. You know way more about graffiti then me. I don't pay it any mind. It's all paint on a wall to me that can be cleaned. I have incidents where I had to remove it off my property. Big effing deal. I think graffiti is a societal issue that starts from kids wanting to have some sort of fame amongst there peers. Maybe the schools and parents should learn a way to help channel and teach these kids a more positive way to do this. It's obvious the risk of losing a limb or jail time is not deterring the problem. Then all you fools on here go on with your barbarian views which surely will not make the problem go away. It hasn't in almost 40 years. So another approach is needed. Graffiti is a rebellious thing, the more the older folk rebel the more the kids will fight back.

Also in today's day and age graffiti is very commercial in the media.
It is very easy for a young kid to emulate something he see's all around him. Graffiti is everywhere, so perhaps in their mindset they feel it is not such a big deal to do what they do. This is why parents and schools need to do more to prevent this problem. The problem most likely starts at home. Most likely these kids come from a broken home. His parents probably are to busy to give him attention, he picks up some paint and writes his name looking for attention. It starts here and instead of seeing a child lose a leg or land in jail, the schools and parents need to be in these kids lives more.

Then his loss also falls on his parents conscience as well.

And I agree, the media is also the problem, because it is made very commercial, same way as having these little girls out here nowadays think because you see women all over regular t.v. dressed like straight hookers, that is how all women and girls should act and dress.

Yes, more home and school involvement is needed, less media crap. But for this guy, he had to learn his lesson the hard way, because I am quite sure this is not the first time he has done this.

Paul I have better thing to do with my time then to take notes on graffiti tags. Maybe you should be paying better attention to your customers on the train then staring out the window looking at graffiti on retaining walls.
