Every person has the right to be considered innocent until proven guilty.

That's the presumption of the law; who it places the burden of legal proof on to show what happened. For assorted reasons, as a matter of legal procedure, we say that the prosecution has the burden of proof beyond reasonable doubt.

It's not a presumption that one is entitled to respect in the ordinary sense, however. Jack the Ripper who is caught actively gutting a woman's body is presumed innocent by the law until proven guilty in a court of law or until he lawfully concedes the same. He is not presumed innocent by anyone who is cognitively functional.
