This is EXACTLY what I would have done, and have done it before when an irate passenger (whihc I am sad to say was an NYCT employee) who was irate with a Hudson Line trainman on my train when the trainman refused to grant him a courtesy ride began threatening him and attempting to go after the trainman physically, and I refused to let the train leave 125th Street until the police got the guy off. The police did arrive, and the guy was taken off the train. And that was for one guy who threatened the well being of a single crew member. That train on the video, had that been my train, would have never left until every one of the offenders was removed, and in the interest of safety of the crew and the other passengers innocent and unassociated with this stupidity, I would totally be in the right as per the rules not to move that train!! |

I will give you a good one.... 12:10 AM GCT to Poughkeepsie 2 years ago, just after Marble Hill.....Bloods.....Latin Kings.....'nuff said!!! The scorecard: Multiple beatdown Bloods Multiple beatdown Latin Kings Multiple cuffed Bloods Multiple cuffed Lstin Kings Multiple passengers not even involved with either gang even got into it over the sheer racial nature of the fracas (basically blacks vs. hispanics) And 2 Bomb cars (Shoreliner Is) with more than half the windows on each smashed out And the Ossining platform chock full of broken glass!! And one big miracle........no guns or weapons were involved!!! (I have NO FRIGGIN' IDEA how this came to be!!!!! :-D) Any questions???? :-D |

True, but sometimes the RTC on duty will order you to leave 125 & promise you that you'll be met by MTA's finest at GCT & your situation will be dealt with there. "We won't tie up the whole railroad & make others late". Their attitude is get the train to GCT`so there isn't a backup waiting for a cop to show up at 125 for a farebeater or any other trouble makin asshole. Bottom line, the bad guy gets a free ride or no handcuffs.But yet, if there is an "operative" or some other spotter to check up on your work ethic as far as collecting fares is concerned & they see you miss someone, you'll get called on the carpet to explain yourself. Just another hypocritical double standard we have to deal with |

And it is the conductor's responsibility to act in the safety and well being of the passengers and the crew, and if a safety issue of increasing danger to well being exists, I am within my duty per rules, not to move the train (in rule book parlance, "the safest course must always be taken"!!)And I really do not think at all the RTC would be ready to do an on-the-air "good faith challenge"!! lol |
