Re: ZMan, that is great news, replacing the M train with the V train., posted by Wallyhorse on Fri Jan 8 04:42:15 2010. I've said it before and I'll say it again.NEVER in the history of this board has the same subject been bought up over and over and over again with the same arguments pro and can made by the same individuals, particularly you. Basically I don't even read these responses because there are so many and always repeated. TP the webmaster ought to change the name of this board to "M/V Merger Chat". So I may as well jump back into the fray and repeat what I've said over and over and over jsut like everybody else: to you the merger makes sense, but it inconveniences every passenger that has to get off the M (or V whatever the hell they'll call it) to change for the J to get to lower Manhattan. And passengers off the J will continue go downstairs for the F becasue there are more F's then M/V's by 2:1. Or they'll crowd the stairway and run down when the F comes in and hold the doors for everybody else delaying it from leaving. If there is a merger, it will be made only for budgetary reasons and not for the convenience of passengers. As I said yesterday, but it got lost in the myraid of responses: the politicos in the areas served by the M and J will not take this quietly. They will not want it. |

One thing always leads to another,It would be nice, IF THEY HAD THE MONEY! MONEY is what it's all about. The renovation of Hewes and Lormier sealed the deal that this would never happen. If it were, those stations would be closed and a new station would have been built as a transfer center. Oh yeah, then y'all be unhappy when the station would be served by local trains only! LOL |

The ridership on the West End line is going to Midtown, not Downtown and this would reduce delays on southbound R trains when southbound M trains are held up at 36th St and northbound R trains before it goes into 36th St as well as southbound D trains at 20th Av in which all the time, it has to wait for a southbound M train to clear at Bay Parkway. |

For every person it helps it screws some another person. As I said 10 times a year every time this M/V thing is bought up, it screws M riders who have to make a new transfer at Essex to the J to get to lower Manhattan who lose their current one seat ride. Some even have another transfer to make to the IRT they already make at Chambers or Fulton. But all the supporters of this conveniently ignore this FACT to bolster their own justification. If this is a go, and if you look at the beginning of this subthread Zman re-emphasizes this is NOT a done deal, politicos along the J/M lines will yell like Vallone is yelling about losing the W. That's BfM's stand. |

Those crews can work trips on the line that works all day like we used to do on the KK and K. KK runs would make a KK trip from either Jamaica or E/Pky to 57/6 and back to either of the south terminals and then make a trip on the QJ from 168 to either Stl in the case of AM runs or Broad St on PM runs. |

Since you rarely ride the system by your own admission, you don't realise that the ridership does not like to divert from their established way of getting to/from work.Overcrowded or not, they like the L since once they get off along 14th St. to make their transfers, they are close to where they are going, be it a few stops north or south, east side or west side. They are not interested in traveling downtown then back uptown even if it's on the same train. Plus the L has more frequent service than the M. This thru service all you guys are so in love with gives the riders ZERO connections to the east side, where most are traveling to. The L's ridership is heaviest north of Myrtle Wycoff, those already riding aren't giving up their seats to change for the M/V upstairs. Other L riders will not backtrack to wait on a cold/snowy/rainy/windy elevated platform. It just kills you guys that this stretch of trackage isn't used for regular service. |

Don't blame the current MTA suits because the current regime has to deal with the mistakes made by past regimes for this nonsense. They even "murdered" flexibility with the R68/68A by unitizing them.It happens every day with the G. 4 cars aren't enough and 8 cars are too much. Plus vandalism/crime would become an issue when the cars are virtually empty in the opposite direction and when the crowd gets off. Finally more time needed to relay with the longer train increases costs too. Spend less time on the computer and ride a G out of Church on the AM rush that has 2 F's ahead of it and 9 minutes behind its' leader to see for yourself. |
