My visit to Eddington Station!

Just wanted to share pictures of the SEPTA R7 Trenton Line's Eddington Station!

One would almost never think that this station was open. There's barely a platform! (Apparently, years of grime, dirt, and gravel covered the little platform that existed).

As you can see, there's a track between the shelter and the main NEC tracks. Yes, passengers step over these tracks to board all trains (similar to stations further down the line). Those other tracks carry CSX trains, which include this engine:

I dunno what was going on - the engine was just sitting there with the engineers inside.

Nonetheless, I hope that Eddington as well as other stations on the R7 Trenton line get overhauled sometime soon. We likely have the worst stations on the entire Northeast Corridor!

How do you expect Eddington to be overhauled . . . ? They can't remove that active freight siding, so they can't build any high platforms, never mind upgrade low platforms or install mini-highs. SEPTA won't be too pushed to rebuild their stations on a line owned by Amtrak, besides.

(If anything, the eastbound platform was always a gravel platform. It's not "years of grime, dirt and gravel"—that was the original condition.)

It would be nice to have some sort of platform/standing place available. There must be something that can be done - the question is if it is worth doing. The first time I went by it on the train, I thought it was just another abandoned station. There isn't even a way for someone to tell which side is towards Center City or to Trenton.

Of course, the entire surrounding area with Street Road, I-95, and practically no sidewalks makes it rather undesirable for any sort of pedestrian usage. Guess it's to be expected :(.

Eddington is more or less a flag stop during off-peak hours.

Seeing as how SEPTA shut down Wissinoming three years ago (similarly configured to Eddington), I don't see them having any impetus to improve any of these smaller regional rail stations. Anything's "worth doing" if it helps people get around . . .

smh, that's just pathetic. Nice to know that SEPTA thinks so highly of the passengers that use the station.

Hmm...

Where's the station? I guess this was one of those stops where they tell you do "stand in a safe spot and wave to the engineer to let him know you want to board the train!"

Once upon a time, I guess things were mildly grand at Finderne. . When was the ticket office torn down?

Heh, with stations like these, I sure won't gripe about the lone platform with the shack-like bus shelter that doesn't do that great of a job protecting people from the elements! ^_^

That's a poor excuse for a station if it's busy at all.

Just to CYA, I just found these pics through random searches on Google. I dunno who took the pic of the RDCs unfortunately, but I found the pic here: www.thebluecomet.com/cnj.html

Updated picture, photographer unknown as well from the same site:

Fortunately, it isn't too busy. It's many a reverse commute stop (I can't even call that a station!) for those who work in that nearby industrial park. If you notice in the picture, there's a rock path that leads to the industrial park.

Sure isn't an inviting station at all, though.

Not too far away is Cornwells Heights Station, which has its massive P&R (with free parking!). That's where all of the people in the area really drive and park their cars. A couple Amtrak trains even stop there as well!

Then why do you hope it gets "overhauled" soon? Wouldn't that be a relative waste of money?

I only used that station one time, in 1987 to get to Philadelphia Park, walking from there to the track. It's a shame that station is in such bad shape, because it could otherwise be used to shuttle people back and forth from the Casino and Racetrack at Philly Park to the R7 in both directions.
