How would they get it from the 6 to the N/R/W? It's not like they can just carry that 500-pound 8 down the stairs. |

Elder Avenue isn't as busy or tight as a Hunts Point or Soundview strip. They'll probably put the crane by Evergreen Avenue and lift it up from there...and prevent northbound traffic north of Westchester Avenue on Evergreen Ave...I don't think it should be that big of a problem. But if they're going to use Elder, why not consider Whitlock since the height at the southbound end of the platform? I know there is a lot of commercial traffic to Hunts Point, but it could be done nonetheless. |

Also, there's a chance that they have to deal with the gap fillers there, and carry it up the stairs before it can traverse the mezzanine to get to the Broadway Line elevator. |

Is it because of its connection to New Years Eve? Is the fabricator trying to save money? Good publicity? It just seems very disruptive and risky in the event of an emergency. How About Giving a Departed Person One Last Subway Ride?.Re: Number 8 Taking Subway To Times Square |

I wonder if the following would be permitted. Let's say someone connected with transit either as an employee, passenger or railfan passes away. To honor the person's love of the subway, their family wants to give them one last subway ride before the person reaches his final destination (assuming you don't believe in an after-life). So they stop the funeral entourage near a major terminal, take the casket out of the hearse and give the enthusiast one last ride on his favorite line. Would there be any problems with the MTA? For those who believe in after-life, are there subways there? |

Somehow, I suspect there'd be a "health issue" raised by some moron. However, don't see anything against the rules in dispersing their ashes from between cars ... I imagine service would be back to normal after three hours or so after the "police action" to determine whether the ashes were a photographer or powdered sugar donuts. :) |

I've thought about this..... The casket - for purposes of dignity - would be placed in a work service car (or even a flat car) trailing a regular revenue train. nice touch... would get on say in midtown and get off an any of the stops near the numerous NYC cemeteries. |

If that's the case, I'd wonder how large a person would be to have sufficient ashes to be hauled in such a large bag? Heh.Nah ... I've decided that if I get creamed upon my leaving this earth, I want my ashes left in a pile outside the White House. Oughta put Cheney in a bunker for at least two hours. :) Seriously, I've actually thought about this - and instead of having my ashes cast out in a forest or at sea, I'd MUCH rather they be deposited in a battery box on R143 8101-8108 somewhere. That way, I could haunt Windows until they install Vista. Heh. |
