The incident occurred down the tail tracks. Photo is at the south end of the downtown platform. That could have been taken from that little perch area under the last staircase. And the damage does indeed look rather insignificant - unless it's worse at the "B" end.wayne |

The shear pin is obviously busted as the drawhead is on the downlow and the electric portions may have been cut with a wrench as there aren't any tail lights despite the car having main lighting. The end bonnet cracked on the ceiling and this particular car may have been hit while taking a curve or switch as evidenced by the damage to the side of anticlimber. Write off another 4 R42s, hope the T/O is O.K. |

From a previous message: "Any incident on MTA property involving equipment the photos are usually to be kept under wraps. Kinda like "what happens here stays here", no matter in public area or not unless the MTA authorizes its release. There are pictures of several equipment related incidents that have occurred on MNR property that have been kept under wraps and from anyone's eyes outside of MNR."Let's make this as clear and simple as possible. The public that means the taxpayers have a right to know how their money is being spent, how the facilities that the public provides is being used, and when there is time for an investigation to know the truth of the matter. That is too fundamental an issue as to be understood by all. The employees of a public authority or agency may want to keep something "under wraps" and hidden, but the truth does indeed come out. It really does not matter if we are talking about the police department, schools, etc -- or even transit authorities. So rest assured that this issue will be reviewed and investigated - with the results made public. As too many have learned to their sorrow - its the "cover-up" that causes the major amount of trouble. Just let there be a "wiff" of a cover-up in this issue... Mike |

No. Not at all.Sometimes things happen in plain sight. Like a 142 that climbs over the fence. Everybody can see that! And not from MTA property either. And if the MTA chooses to keep the line open and the trains running, then anything that can be seen from the platform is fair game. Now as for this incident. If it happened in a station that was opened to the public, than any photos that were taken before the station was closed to the public are fair game. Heck, I'd probably give copies to the MTA to help them in their investigations, though of course in a static scene that would not be necessary. But like if I was filming a train coming into a station and it splits a switch taking out a platform and dozens of geese, yeah, they sure as hell would be interested in it. Of course, so would FOX News, and I'd be sure to keep a copy that I could sell to them. ROAR |

Those photos look OK, and authorized in as much as that dude leaning against the damaged car is not wearing any MTA identification, and there is a reflection of an MTA employee in the operator's window who does not seem to be concerned by the presence of this dude and the photographer. These pictures were taken a long time after the accident, there is a wreck train down there trying to sort things out, and those things cannot get there quickly at all. It is likely enough that the station was reopened to service before these cars were pulled out of the tunnel. Clearly we are looking at the third car, and there is significant damage to coupler. If the LION were to make a bet, they will not fix this car either, give that its natural replacement is already on the property. ROAR |
