I will admit that it is a fairly fast local.

/end thread

However, during the AM rush hour those extra minutes can mean the difference between getting a coffee and bagel or not having breakfast.

Darn.

Anyhow, leave earlier...

It's worth it for the peace of mind a ride on a local with a seat provides...

They can also be the difference between catching a connection and missing it (and trust me, if your trip has multiple transfers one missed connection can screw you).

Uh, my current commute involves 2 or 3 connections, depending on how I go...

As such, LEAVE EARLIER.

However, no matter what I say I'll hear the same "The V train is the greatest line" rhetoric.

But it is. Where else is there an empty local along a crowded corridor???? The V is a gift from above.

So tell you what, I'll ride the V train end to end after you stop taking Metro-North and instead take the 1 train straight to Midtown (no transfer at 96st). You'll then realize why people prefer the express over the local.

Um, I rode the "1 train straight to Midtown (no transfer at 96st)" for several months. Don't tell me what I don't know.

I know very well why people prefer an express over a local. And so does everyone else. But that's with all other things being equal. With the V vs. the F, all other things are NOT equal, namely the crowding.

No, Cresent wouldn't be an express stop because the one track el woul dcontinue down Jamaica Ave after Cypress hills and rejoin the local at Broadway Junction. The express track would raise through the Cypress Hills station as to avoid having to cross the local Manhattan track at grade.

i meant if that 1 track connection was not built the alternative would be to continue the 'express' on the current tracks and the next stop after Woodhaven would be Cresent.
Of course if the 1 track connection is built then Broadway Junction would be next.

Then I suggest the MTA build the proposed connection to the Grand st station from BOWERY.
It was part of the planned Chrystie st proposal..but was dropped along with so much of the project.[roughly THREE QUARTERS OF IT WAS DROPPED].

I would also say that the unused tunnels on top of the Chrystie st line should be connected to the Nassau st subway for direct downtown service.

Yes, that they're idiots. Expresses are not always faster than locals. It's their own damn fault their trains are overcrowded, not MTA.

>>>Have you ever heard the phrase New York Minute? People do not want to experiment with silly little locals.<<<

Yeah, and that's exactly why you have overcrowded E and F trains that take forever to get where they need to go. If you and the rest of your fellow QB express riders gave that attitude the old heave-ho, you'd realize just how much better your commute will be. The MTA is not going to add more E and F trains and the F train is not going back to the 53rd St tunnel. Given the track capacity limits and the way the line is set, they can't add any more trains, so they won't.

Yes, the F train was the logical choice for the use of the 63rd Street tunnel, why:

a) it fulfills some of the aims of the original proposal as an express train to/from Queens

b) it provides more frequent and 24-7-365 service to Roosevelt Island which was built with the idea that the subway would be the main transportation method. The tram was built to be temporary due to the delays with building the subway line.

c) While some have proposed sending the V-train along 63rd Street, that option would still leave 53rd Street over-crowded with riders just passing through and no room on the express trains. Now with the V train serving 53rd Street there is room on the trains for those on the platforms along 53rd Street. In the past those riders had to wait for train after train to get to Queens, making the platforms even more crowded.

d) While some here moan and groan that the V-train is the worst thing since sliced bread, their solutions is usually just more of the same activities that were done in decades past.

e) Is anyone here old enough to remember when express trains in the peak direction did not stop at certain stations along 53rd Street because the crowds were so bad?

f) While the F-train on 63rd Street, and the connection to the Queens Blvd line was a COMPROMISE in light of the situation, it was the best of available options.

Mike

That would very much work if it can be done:

The single track along Jamaica Avenue would probably be the best option with express service all the way along the route in the peak direction (including on weekends to Manhattan until I would say around 8:00 PM on Saturdays and 6:00 PM on Sundays with reverse express service after that until at least Midnight, if not later on Friday and Saturday nights).

Which is why that might be the most viable option: Combining the M and V trains OR making the V a third train on the Broadway Brooklyn line, having it run to at least Myrtle Avenue if not to either Metropolitan Avenue or Eastern Parkway, going express in Brooklyn in the peak direction. Wasn't the original SAS/Super-Express plan as something similiar to this:

(F): Express from 179th and then to a portal to the Super-Express with a new stop near the present ESA hole and on to 63rd St Manhattan.

(E): Local from 179th to 71st and then Express to Queens Plaza.

Today's (R): Archer Av line and on to current route

SAS train: Archer Av to Super-Express

(GG): Its old traditional route to 71st St.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Those expressaholics insist on the illusion of the express service being that much faster is so ridiculous. It's hilarious with the crowds at Roosevelt Avenue where so many people wait for the E and F and ignore the V, even though the V is going to the same 6th Avenue stops as the F from Rockefeller Center onwards. Its seems like only the ones who want Lex/53rd and 5th/53rd are the line's regular riders.

No, the MTA does not provide the proper express service. Nobody likes a local train that takes 5 hours to get somewhere when they can get to that same somewhere using the power of the Express train that gets there in a fraction of the time.

First of all that's less steel dust breathed in.

Fine, then I will take the Uptown Local train to 71st Continental and then take my Excellent Express!

Stop exaggerating with the 5 hour business and fractions of time. You know damn well that the difference between the local and express running times from Queens Plaza to CTL is not even 10 minutes. Why don't you use a stop watch sometime and time it for yourself one day while you are out of school enjoying your vacation? You know damn well that the QB express tracks are at capacity due to station dwell time, especially at Roosevelt Ave. The Strappie board can use your insight, and don't ask me who they are like you did once before because I know for a fact you post there too!

An express train has no more nor ability to move from point A to point B than a local train. It just skips lesser used stations, that's all. And most express runs save no more than five minutes, not much time savings there.
