Let's see. Reduce funding, but hire more cops. Round up the homeless and store them WHERE? Reducing federal employment will magically create successful drug rehab centers? What am I missing?I remember when the TA deployed transit police all evening in every station and on every train. And Duffy will find funding for this while sabotaging congestion pricing and reducing taxes paid by the overly rich? He must have failed second grade 'rithmetic. |

Law enforcement is funded on the local level.Subway operations are funded on the local and state level. The homeless cannot be given a choice in the subway system any more. About a week ago, I had to switch cars twice from a homeless guy that was having a bad day along with a bunch of other people. As the shelter capacity eases ever so slightly, they can return them to their original function of housing the homeless. You don't want everything to be federalized. Yes, the federal government can solve the problem, but you may not like it. Most systems are not dealing with this issue. The subway is not a place for people to live. |

Fully agree that neither the Subway, nor BART where I live should be homeless encampments. No, I do not seek a fed guv homeless dept, BUT if the feds returned to building a huge number of lopw/no income apartments, at least we would have somewhere for them to sleep. IN CA it is estimated we are short 500k housing units. That is not sustainable! If we don't build enough housing, where do we expect the poor to live? |

In most place or at least many, I'd agree with you. But in NYC, $$ disappears into thousands of grifts great and small. Remember the Mayor's wife's mental health initiative? Just under 1,000,000,000, mental health arguable got worse not better after whatever it paid for was done. Same Mayor's wife had a six-figure 'job' with the city, one which had no measurable output.When there's that much theft that the public is allowed to see, think of how large the iceberg must be. |

After quitting college I worked in Chicago, briefly Philly, then NYC 4 years before coming out to the Bay Area. i cite all this to assure you that I was brought up on many tales of graft, grift, corrupt judges, and cops as well as stupidity in the DoD. Money disappearing from supposed good works is endemic.For a current transit example, check out the ridiculous$5.7 and surely to rise billion to extend the CTA Red Line toa location where NICTD's predecessor had a station until 1960.
