470 Foot Towet next to Culver in Coney |
|
Posted by SLRT on Thu Aug 13 09:42:21 2015 I've just had a "Mother-in-Law Going Over a Cliff in my new Cadillac" moment.A 470-foot residential tower is to go up at 532 Neptune Avenue, adjacent to the Neptune Avenue Culver station. Sheepshead Bites The good news: The renderings show it as facing the Culver, so it will be edge-on to the water, and not as dominant as if the long side faced the ocean; this may increase business on the F train and encourage more Coney service; it will be upscale, and Coney badly needs that; it is well north of the amusement area and beach. The bad news: It will dominate the skyline of Coney Island; it will be there--I don't trust developers. |

Well, on the top floors there will be some great views. Coney Island, the ocean, Verrazano Bridge, WTC. Of course not all of those from one single apartment.Oh yeah, CIY and my alma mater, which has now fallen upon hard times, John Dewey HS :( |

If a few more of these large scale apartment buildings are constructed along the Culver the MTA will have to consider restoring 'F' express service. This building alone could add 1000 riders to the 'F'.http://newyorkyimby.com/2015/08/revealed-532-neptune-avenue-coney-islands-future-tallest-building.html |

'If a few more of these large-scale apartment buildings are constructed along the Culver the MTA will have to consider restoring 'F' express service. This building alone could add 1000 riders to the 'F'.'Are you a rider on the F? The limitations of the terminal capacity preclude additional service to Stillwell Av (that's why alternate F trains end at Kings Highway). 1,000 additional riders = one more train at the most. I'm not understanding this obsession/wishful thinking for express service along the Culver - the level of ridership doesn't warrant it. |

If 524 apartments, 1,000 new subway commuters is a bit of a stretch. In any case, some could just as well walk to W8th Street and take The Brighton line. Once on the Q train, choose between the 6th Avenue (B) Brighton Express, or Broadway line (stay on the Q). |

No, Montauk Point is about 115 miles from Coney Island. The distance to the horizon from a top of 470 foot tower is only about 25 miles. Besides, that plan is from five years ago. The latest plan replaces the 470 foot tower with three much shorter towers. |

No, Montauk Point is about 115 miles from Coney Island. The distance to the horizon from a top of 470 foot tower is only about 25 miles. The longest sightline ever photographed is 275 miles, from a mountaintop in the Pyrenees Mountains of Spain to a peak in the French Alps near the Swiss border. There's a theoretical one of 335 miles between two mountains in China and Kyrgyzstan (now that's a hard name to spell!), but it's never been photographed. |

Most likely that would be Mt. Washington in the southwest corner of the state. |

The distance to the sea level horizon from both the Empire State and the WTC is 45 miles; however, on a perfectly clear day (which occurs only 2 or 3 days a year), you can see the tops of some of the Catskill mountains 90 miles away. |
