The inaugural run is made by the ferryboat JOHN H. McCOOEY followed by the MAURICE E. CONNOLLY and the EDWARD RIGELMANN. It was also the last day of operation for the No. 7 World’s Fair Special. Accordingly a new IRT schedule was put into effect on this date. The most important change was the restoration of 24 hour express service on the Lexington Avenue Line for the first time since 1960. A new weekday midday Flushing Express service went into effect on Monday, October 18. These trains run between Main Street and Times Square. They operate express between Willets Point and Grand Central with one stop at Queensboro Plaza. Trains leave Main Street from 10 AM to 1 PM and leave Times Square from 1 PM to 3 PM. Unfortunately there were some cutbacks as well. Weekend operations of No.3 trains to Flatbush Avenue and No. 5 trains to South Ferry would end at 9 PM instead of midnight. And on the last day of the Fair, a record crowd of 446,953 attended. I think it's a safe bet that Expo 67 had that many visitors every day. Had it not been for a transit strike in September, Expo would have easily surpassed the two-season total for the New York World's Fair in just six months! |

I visited the NYWF several times. I went up to Montreal in July of 67. I rode the New York Central and D&H. And I rode on Montreal's Metro and Expo Express. Accommodations in Montreal were in short supply, but that wasn't a problem for us. We stayed at my uncle's. I remember telling my father it was very convenient to have a brother there.IINM Expo drew 50 million in six months while the NYWF drew 51 million over two seasons. I still remember the minirail line that went right through the US Pavilion. |

I too went there, but by Adirondack Trailways Bus. Trip took forever since the Northway was still under construction in spots, so we had to bail out to Rt 9 at several locations. My biggest takaway from our Montreal trip was the rubber tired subway, how quiet and clean it was. As for the fair itself, I remember there was a theater (forgot the name of the exhibit) with 360 degree screens totally surrounding you. It showed a pilot's eye view of the countryside. I also remember getting seasick from that! |

Rode the SPVs many a times back & forth to Croton Harmon. When you got a good pair, they'd run like rabbits especially between Peekskill and Garrison. When they didn't, you'd get a nice view of the Hudson with its passing boats. Often the boats would beat you. The Hudson would seem like a passing lane! |
