It was also the last day of operation for the No. 7 World’s Fair Special. Accordingly a new IRT schedule was put into effect on this date. The most important change was the restoration of 24 hour express service on the Lexington Avenue Line for the first time since 1960. A new weekday midday Flushing Express service went into effect on Monday, October 18. These trains run between Main Street and Times Square. They operate express between Willets Point and Grand Central with one stop at Queensboro Plaza. Trains leave Main Street from 10 AM to 1 PM and leave Times Square from 1 PM to 3 PM. Unfortunately there were some cutbacks as well. Weekend operations of No.3 trains to Flatbush Avenue and No. 5 trains to South Ferry would end at 9 PM instead of midnight.
