My claim isn't that it would never be useful. Just that there aren't enough useful itineraries to justify the cost. Most (but not all) itineraries related to the waterfront are well served by the 19 existing subway stations.

There are existing real people whose lives would be greatly improved by a Fordham Road or Avenue C light rail line.

I think it was more complicated than that. The fire department went after him because he allowed a bunch of people to have a party in there. If you've been in there, you'll know that there is only one way in or out, and it's a pretty narrow passage at that. That's a major fire hazard, especially because, unless something has changed, there isn't a whole lot of ventilation down there.

There is a single body two truck all-low floor tram made by Pragoimex that partially fits that bill. The prototype is undergoing testing in Prague now.

The point of these new cars is to directly replace aging Tatra T3's which are the technological descendants of the 1948 US all-electric PCC. The new car obviously doesn't have much now 80 years young PCC tech left in it except its overall operating and performance envelope.

You are referring to their Evo tram, right? If so why would anyone want to go through the expense of building a light rail line only to equip it with a vehicle that carries fewer passengers than a 35 foot bus?

JMHO, but that should readily answer Olog's question, nobody is going to design a US LRT around a "modern" PCC vehicle as that layout is far too small to justify the expense if building an LRT or streetcar. Something that small may be worthwhile on secondary European tram lines, but make no sense here in the US where capacity is frequently a justification for building an LRT.
