Which one is shorter in miles? They also need to consider travel time to Manhattan. Wouldn't the trip from the Q N be shorter? |

"Should have been Astoria Blvd, (N) (Q) station."That, of course, would be the most logical solution but the NIMBYs would get in the way. Willets Point area by CitField is a commercial zone (at the moment). IMHO, Willets Point would take people too far out of their way. They would have to go all the way east to get the AirTrain which would take them back west to the Airport. I honestly can't see much use for that routing from a passenger standpoint. |

Willets point is slightly shorter. The distance between Willets Point and the western end of the terminal B is the same as Astoria to that same point at the western end of Terminal B without serving the rest of the airport. There would be no need to navigate around the approach path to runway 4. Willets point has excess passenger capacity since about 7 to 8 out of 10 people who use that station in a year are there for Mets games or the US open. that's less than 90 days out of 365 the station sees major use. Form the ridership numbers I mentioned in the "least used station" thread: Astoria Blvd is #121 (3.9 million). Ditmars is #81 (5.4 million). Willets Point is #246 (1.9 Million). So Willets point is closer, has more space, and is an express stop on a line with at least some express service. |

Also notice how the Gov mentioned in the video it will also connect to the LIRR, they probably would restore Half hour headways on the PW Branch when this Airtrain service would start running, notice how well used NJT is between NYP and EWR... Fix up the current Willis Point LIRR station, have trains stop there at all times and that's your quick option to Manhattan. |

Connecting service to the airport using the #7 as a connection would be a big mistake. Using the Astoria line would be better for one simple reason is that B division cars are bigger, hence someone comming in from, say Havana with a luggage cart full of stuff would have more room to maneuver & lesser chance of an ugly confrontation (cart into knees..etc). Besides, the Flushing line is almost running at capacity as it is. The Astoria line could absorb the extra riders w/their luggage much easier. That unused middle track atop 31st street would come in handy. The NIMBYS can be overcome. Regarding the JFK Airtrain, They screamed like hell when the "Van Wyck El" as they called it was going up & last time I checked, its still running |

I was tying it in with the idea of clearing out Flushing by building a bus terminal beneath the airtrain station. The problem with that idea is that most of the bus lines go east of Main St. You are adding at least 1 mile to every trip. Moreover, there are only 2 roads that connect Main St to the Willets Point: Northern Blv and Roosevelt Ave. Both run through downtown Flushing and both are operating near capacity during rush hours. |

But I think Woodside would be better.Woodside is probably the most logical location, but it suffers from the fact that you'd have some degree of siting issues of where one would out the station (yay for land land speculators), and the fact that your easy elevated stretch out of the station is currently occupied by the Flushing Railway. OTOH, Willets Point, as others have pointed out, is basically now auto repair shops and other industrial concerns that are being zoned out of the area. It's going to be easier, but it's going to be awkward given the need to backtrack for riders coming from Manhattan or the multiple transfers for many others including LIRR riders. |

Reasoning (aside from airtrain connection)proximity to Stengel depot. cuts down deadheading. connection to Citi Field, the Tennis Center and the rest of the park. A 42,000 baseball stadium and a 23,000 seat tennis stadium both sharing a bus stop with only one bus route. Fewer buses laying over on the streets around Roosevelt and Main, which I figure to be the cause of the congestion in that area. The terminal would include employee relief facilities instead of them peeing on a church fence. You would not need to spend so much time, if any at all, on streets packed with Chinese people trying to shove fliers into your hands (which are all in Chinese) while you wander around looking for the right bus stop. Main street would no longer be the number 11 stop in ridership if some of the load got off early. |

You can't go over, around, or under that structure, unless you tunnel under the Grand Central Pkwy/Triboro Bridge Approach. My 2 cents worth: Tie into the IND express tracks to/from Queens Plaza at Northern Blvd, west of Broadway. Run the tunnel under Northern Blvd,, up 68th Street, under the BQE, under the park between St Michael's Cemetery/BQE eastern spur, Grand Central Pkwy, to LaGuardia Apt Central Terminal. |
