Willets point is slightly shorter. The distance between Willets Point and the western end of the terminal B is the same as Astoria to that same point at the western end of Terminal B without serving the rest of the airport.

There would be no need to navigate around the approach path to runway 4.

Willets point has excess passenger capacity since about 7 to 8 out of 10 people who use that station in a year are there for Mets games or the US open. that's less than 90 days out of 365 the station sees major use. Form the ridership numbers I mentioned in the "least used station" thread:

Astoria Blvd is #121 (3.9 million). Ditmars is #81 (5.4 million). Willets Point is #246 (1.9 Million).

So Willets point is closer, has more space, and is an express stop on a line with at least some express service.
