Joe Brennan's April Fool Photo is a pic of a N/B B train at 7 Av/53 St which was photoshopped to look like an A train terminating at 76 St. Any seriously knowledgeable railfan should have been able to pick this up for several reasons. First, the paint scheme on the R-10 is not the original paint scheme that the R-10s had when the subway opened to Euclid or allegedly to 76 St. Second, whether the existence of the station is ever proven or not, photos of 76 St on the Euclid model board plus track diagrams of the area plainly indicate that 76 St was not designed as, nor could it ever have been used as, a terminal since there were no switches planned beyond the station that could have been used to turn trains from south back to north. Also, all accounts from individuals who claim to have been there describe the station platform as being rough unfinished concrete despite the mention of the S/B platform only being partially tiled so even if the existence of the station is eventually proven, it was definitely never fit to be used for passenger service as the April Fool photo shows. I would suspect that if and when anyone is able to access the location and photograph it that, except for the partially tiled S/B station wall, it would look very much like Utica upper or So 4 St but in a 4 track outside platform local station configuration of course. |
