Now a days, you need a proper ID to fly, to visit a doctor's office or even to vote. If you do not have a proper ID you had better get one and keep it on you.When the T/O called me in for taking pictures out the front window of his train, as was proper for him to do (the reflection of my camera sensor gave me away) the officers were quite polite. I provided them with my driver's license (They were impressed by a North Dakota License) asked about my photography and I showed them the brochure of my railroad, and they were pleased and went on their way. When I was approached at 125th Street I saw the officers coming, so instead of getting on the train as I was about to do, I waited for them, and gave them a brochure, and they were pleased with that. I explained that I really was not taking photos of the tracks, but of the buildings beyond the tracks. I pointed out the photo back drops that I had made for my other stations, and they were satisfied. Even LIONS have to be polite sometimes.

I have been treated at three different hospital emergency rooms in the last few months and never had to show ID. Only showed my Blue Cross card. Same thing at doctors offices - never had to show anything more than my Blue Cross card and if I were paying cash then I would not even need that. 3. I never had to show ID to vote in NYC. I drive so I do have a drivers license but if I didn't all I would have are credit cards and those are not considered ID. Many people in the NY metro area don't drive and therefore don't have ID. Heck - my employer can't even sign up the majority of employees for direct deposit. A significant percentage of our workforce does not even have a bank account. Also the very fact that cops ask for ID for no good reason is abhorrent to me - we are not living at the East German border crossing: "Papieren Bitte"... None of that would have mattered in this case. The police cited the magazine editor for illegal photography - the ID issue was secondary. The cops were not going to allow the photography to continue ID or no ID. |

It is to prevent identity theft, that someone else should obtain medical care using your name (and leaving you and the hospital with the bills) IIRC, this is a new Federal Regulation.At the polling places, many forms of ID will do, however in ND there IS NO VOTER REGISTRATION, so you need to proff that you belong to that district. That said, I can now vote at any poll in the county. Nonetheless, proper ID requirements are coming to a gulag near you.
