Posted by Train Man Paul : Metro-North's Best Conductor FOR ALL 3 LINES!!! on Sun Jan 10 21:21:39 2010 Though a little bit freezin', but nonetheless a nice looking day, I took a few at Spuyten-Duyvil Station, in my quest to find more and more good shooting spots!! Safe to say, I shall be back here!!Here is what I caught out there today...... Plenty of blue skies, lots of ice flows on the Harlem River, and a view of the Harlem River Drawbridge (Amtrak Empire Division)...... Views north and south, respectively, of the line and the station along Metro-North's Hudson Line...... An Amtrak MOW truck arrives at the south end of the drawbridge...... What a lovely, ice cold day to take a stroll on the bridge with icy winds and icy water and ice flows below, and begin some track and bridge maintenance...... Look fast, train action approaches in the form of Metro-North Train #8828, Poughkeepsie to GCT...... Thru the "Rock Cut" south of CP 11, #8828 is off to GCT...... As the quiet slightly returns to Spuyten-Duyvil, we check out the former Spuyten-Duyvil wye from overhead and views of the old NYC "DV" Tower at the wye...... "DV"..... Spuyten-Duyvil Wye...... The Amtrak maintainers continue about on the drawbridge and proceed with a test opening...... Our next train hustles northward thru CP 11, #8829 to Poughkeepsie...... Coming south, #8728, Harmon to GCT Semi-Express (manned at the head end by a engineer friend of mine who recognized me quick fast, and gave a nice tootin' in the pass!! Damn.....can't be dicreet no more, huh?? lol:-D)...... And the Amtrak guys got the bridge locked and lined in good time, because along comes Amtrak #283 to Niagara Falls, P32AC-DM #717, 5 Amfleet Is, with the 717 blarin' a horn salute to the maintainers on the bridge...... Train #8730 swings 'round the curve and into Spuyten-Duyvil Station...... OOPS!! Someone forgot something here!!! :-D...... And #8730 meets #8731 at CP 11...... As the silence returns to Spuyten-Duyvil....... The ice continues its slow flow down the Harlem River...... Ol' Glory, battered and beaten, still waves in the stiff, cold wind atop the Harlem River Drawbridge...... The maintainers continue their duties in the cold, and some more test operations of the drawbridge...... And the warning signs keep their warnings for all to see (not many listen still!! :-( )...... And rails, for now, grow cold, and the signals shine "double red" at CP 11...... And we bid farewell to Spuyten-Duyvil. Thanks for coming along!! Hope you all enjoyed!! :-) |
