There would be outrage though. Jamaica is still a major transfer point. Currently that is between Brooklyn trains, Penn trains, and HP Ave trains. With ESA, many people on Penn bound trains will want GC trains, and many people on GC trains will want Penn.As it is, getting through JAY/HALL eats up a lot of time, both traversing the interlockings at slow speed, eating up dwell at the platforms, and then proceeding in timetable order west (where a few trains ahead or behind time can cause a snowballing series of delays and congestion). So all that I am really proposing to do is to more or less maintain the number of trains stopping at Jamaica, while the rest bypass. For example, the Huntington-New York routes will be on a 5 minute headway during the AM peak hour, i.e., 6 tph will be added. There is not need for an additional 6 tph to stop at Jamaica. Most trains that don't stop at Jamaica can stop at Woodside, and that allows for an easy same platform transfer between ESA and NYP trains. |
