I'll try to explain this to you with an example.Suppose: Tomorrow, US soldiers come to North Dakota, arrest you, and take you to Gitmo or a similar prison. You are not given any court hearings, nor are you allowed access to a lawyer or even any member of the outside world. The soldiers explain that they are allowed to do this because you are a spy/insurgent/terrorist, and remind you that since international rules of combat permit them to shoot people like you at their convenience, you should thank them for being such fine gentlemen. They tell you that you will be released when the president unilaterally decides that he thinks there aren't any more terrorists. According to what you just stated, you would have absolutely no objection to that happening. |
