Answering such a request by changing the subject or asking questions is tantamount to a refusal, it would be seen that way by any interviewer: If you were looking for a job, you would keep looking; If you were with a psychologist, that is where he would keep digging; If you were having an encounter with a Sheriff, it is were they start writing.I would have handed him a business card, saying that I am a hobby-photographer. You have diven him identification without presenting a photo-ID card. If he has a problem with that (after all you do NOT have to carry an ID card with you), then he will have to make an issue of it.
