But this is something I've known since childhood: cop asks for i.d., you give him the i.d. as soon as he asks you for it, then you start explaining things. I've had a few dealings with cops and not once has any of them been unwilling to listen to what I have to say after I've presented whatever i.d. I have. To question the cop at that critical moment is definitely going to be seen by the police as being antagonistic, at the very least.So why bust their balls? Just show your i.d. and then you can get righteous about the incident if you must. At least you will have fulfilled your legal obligation as a law-abiding citizen. I would be more on your "side" if you hadn't been so reluctant to present i.d. to the cop. |
