Tuscarora Almanac for April 20 |
|
Posted by irtredbirdr33 on Sun Apr 20 08:59:47 2025 Tuscarora Almanac for April 20 1871 – from The Book of First Runs The 9th Avenue El resumes operation between 29th Street and Dey Street under the management of the West Side Patented Elevated Railway Company. A dummy steam locomotive was purchased and the three former cable cars were converted into standard coaches. 1930 – from The Book of First Runs Philadelphia’s Broad Street Subway is extended from City Hall to Lombard-South. 1959 – from The Book of First Runs New escalators are placed in service at 74th Street-Broadway-Roosevelt Avenue between the IRT Flushing Line and the IND Queens Line. The use of paper transfers is discontinued. 1964 – from The Book of First Runs No. 7 Flushing Line trains are increased to eleven cars. As there are not enough “Bluebirds” on hand to cover all the service so R-33 “Redbirds” are sent over form the mainland. Along with them came several R-17’s single units to make up the eleventh car. Ed. Note: A car washer had been installed in the Corona Yard to keep the new equipment clean for the World's Fair. After years of seeing the R-17's coated in black grime it was nice to see them restored to there original colors. Larry, RedbirdR33 |
