Tuscarora Almanac for January 5

1918 – from The Book of First Runs

The BRT Broadway Line is extended from Prince Street to Whitehall Street. New stations are opened at Canal Street (Broadway), City Hall (Upper Level), Cortlandt Street, Rector Street and Whitehall Street. Although trains were terminating on the Whitehall Street center track that station did not open for passengers until September 19, 1918.
There is a lower level at City Hall station. It is used for the storage of trains.

1918 – from The Book of First and Last Runs

Service on the New York Central Putnam Division is cut back from 155th Street, Manhattan to a new terminal at Sedgwick Avenue in The Bronx. The IRT 9th Avenue El begins a shuttle operation across the Putnam Bridge to a new station called “Sedgwick Avenue”. (Adjacent to the NYCRR station of the same name) Service on both tracks will begin on March 1. Service beyond Sedgwick Avenue to the IRT Jerome Avenue Line will begin on July 1, 1918.
