And on this date in 1969, I saw an R-7/9 consist on the Lonesome Larry for the first time. My mother and I were on our way to a Saturday School play rehearsal in Brooklyn, and as our BMT standard train pulled into 6th Ave., the R-7/9 train was there, too - headed for 8th Ave. Getting one was hit-and-miss early that year - we just missed one at Lorimer St. one Saturday afternoon. |
