Amtrak has no options. They need to get to SSY or to New England.

I just imagined the Vermonter being pulled by diesels its entire run, routed with two reverse moves via Albany and the CSX river line :).

Amtrak *could* use Newark or Hoboken as the turnaround for the Keystones. No food service or looping to worry about, just send some car cleaners. Between the Keystones and the Empire Corridor trains, they could easily clear a 25% service reduction if they had to.
