One of the reasons why the New York Central got around that in the Mohawk valley was left-hand running for pax on the southernmost pair and right hand running on the northernmost pair. That way the trains on the two center tracks were going in the same direction and if a load shifted on a freight (which happens FAR more often than what happened here) it would have at least been a low speed event.

If what I heard about 75 MPH MAS there was what both trains were actually doing, that was a 150 MPH collision. AMAZING how many survived that.

Shifting loads is very real on frieghts, so is ground-running. Knowing what real railroading is like, I'd prefer 30 please. :)
