Not only did the old timers run on 10/29/04, they also ran in revenue service on 10/27 and 10/28. A few of us were coming up the BMT Broadway line from City Hall, where we'd stepped on the platform of the loop station, and when we got to Times Square (hoping to catch the Lo-Vs), lo and behold there they were on the s/b express track!. I yelled out, "The R units are running!", at which point we made a beeline up the stairs, down to the s/b platform and scrambled aboard. The old timers were running express between Canal St. and 57th St., and their gears hit F# above middle C between 34th and Union Square.For the record, they ran local between Astoria and Canal St. on the 28th and 29th. I stayed on them for as long as I could on the 29th, finally bailing at 57th because I had to catch a plane home. Talk about cutting it close - by the time I got through security at LGA, my flight was boarding. |
