The latest "final" track plan of the HO layout |
|
Posted by Dave on Thu Sep 13 16:44:00 2012 My friend has a beautiful built-up Sante Fe passenger station by Athearn that's about 6 1/2 inches wide. It turned out the previous "final" iteration of the track plan had the three passenger tracks too close to each other for the station to fit in between two of the tracks. Here's what it looks like:Passenger station I truncated 2 Track to end alongside the east side of the station, where it now will function as a House track. This one little change now allows us to improve and increase operations. The westbound varnish will drops off its diner and a passenger car at the depot, where the yard switcher spots them on the House track followed by the westbound's departure. A little while later the eastbound limited pulls in and the yard switcher adds the diner and passenger car for the trip east. In addition, there's no reason why the switcher can't tie up on the House track when it not in use shuffling cars in the freight yard. I also added some sidings along the east side of the layout. I heavily modified John Allen's Timesaver plan for this section. It now offers six industries to switch, along with the mine and a siding on the mine branch. During operations my friend plans on three crews - one to handle passenger and long distance freights; one to drill the industry trackage; and one to work the freight yard and passenger yard switcher. DCC will be used and engines will be decoder and sound equipped. I should be able to post some pictures of the benchwork before Rosh Hashana. Layout construction is scheduled to start in mid-November although backdrop construction may begin earlier. |
