Life without parole is just fine with me, for each and every one of them. |

I think life without parole is a far harsher punishment than death, because, as Pamela Smart (who is doing life without parole, for masterminding her husband's murder) said, "with the death penalty, at least you know there is an end coming, even if it's an execution." |

Florida is a state that actually did sentence a 13-year-old child to life without parole, and for a "sexual battery", at that! Deep southern states have no difficulty at all in imposing extremely severe punishments, which is why I'm confident the defendants in this case will, if convicted, get every last second of the hell they've got coming to them. |

Most Rabbinic sources agree that the Torah never intended this literally, i.e., that someone's eye be gouged out in exchange for the loss of another's eye. Rather, the Torah meant that the tortfeasor was to pay a penalty in an amount decided by Moses and/or other judges to compensate the victim for the loss of the eye. The same system in use today in civil tort law. |

The murder itself wasn't particularly grisly.It was a simple shooting. He was already dead when they tossed him in the fire. The sentence should be proportionate to their age, prior record, culpability (I doubt they all played an equal role), remorse and other circumstances. |

I've seen enough examples of unchecked, unmitigated acts of pure evil, to make me think he might have been burned alive.I once pronounced a thirtysomething woman who had a curtain rod inserted into her vagina, and well into her abdominal tract, perforating several organs. It wasn't a postmortem injury, according to the ME. The autopsy revealed this woman died from the trauma of having that curtain rod manipulated around inside her body after insertion. It was so horrible, the press didn't even need to be told to hold it back. Her killer was never found, a fact that chills my bones to this day, even though he or she is likely an old person by now. There are monsters that will haunt your dreams, without ever being anything other than human. Believe that. |

He was shot several times and the implication in the article was that they shot him the last time because he hadn't died yet. I think that he was dead when they threw him in the pit. They could have burned him alive and saved bullets if that was their intention. |

Well, I have heard of the similarities between the Torah and the older Code of Hammurabi. All I can tell you is that the Torah did not invent new laws concerning the behavior of humanity - the laws against murder, injuring others, stealing, et al existed for centuries before the Torah era began and are called the seven Noahide laws. No one ever claimed that the Torah invented the laws against murder, theft, injustice, idolatry, et al. |
