The Roseanne statement was just to prove my point, I didn't watch the show, but I did know that she was supposed to live in a "white trash" area. Part of Howard Beach is nice, but the other part of it is easily one of the most rundown areas in the city, so they have no right to look down on black people. I actually took photos of Howard Beach when I busfanned the Q11 down there, let me see if I can find them & show you guys what I'm talking about. |

Morscher's on Catalpa near Forest is still open no? Forest was the best and Ebbinghaus at Seneca and Gates was good too. Ehmer was good, too but I think the others were better.Morschers on Catalpa across from St Matthias is still there, actually, I had been stopping in there and getting stuff there now that Forest Pork at Woodbine and Forest is gone. When I was a kid there was Schaller and Weber, Ehmers, Forest Pork, Seneca Pork at Seneca and Putnam, I also remember the one at Seneca and Gates. The only one left is Morchers Pork at Woodward and Catalpa. I think they also cater to the remaining Gotscheers, People of the countries of the former Yugoslavia, and may have expanded into some Polish to adapt. Manor Oktoberfest too. Stammtisch is still going too. I haven't been in years. Isn't there an Alpine something on Metropolitan near the Parkside station of the old Rockaway branch? And yes Stammtisch is still there too, I had it about 2 years ago. The last time I had German food though (aside from some of the stuff I buy at Morscher's Pork) is when I was at Epcot last year in Florida we ate at the Germany Pavillion, and they have an all you can eat German Buffet which was fairly reasonable, and the large beers were the size of a boot! It turned out to be like 40 or more ounces! She asked if we wanted the large one and I looked at the table next to us at what appeared to be a large glass (about 22 oz) and said, "Yeah, sure".....didn't expect what she brought though! |

Morschers is still there, it's actually on Catalpa at Woodward, across diagonally from St Matthias Church:http://www.morschersporkstore.com/ I think you are thinking of the Karl Ehmer's that was there forever at the corner of Forest and Catalpa. That closed about 10 years ago and is a dentist office now. I last ate at Zum Stammtisch about 2 years ago. Von Westernhagens which was diagnally across from Zum Stammtisch just closed this past April when the old German (Austrian?) couple retired and sold it to what I believe is going to be an Irish Pub now. |

Yes, I remember the Triangle Hofbrau. Across the street under the Richmond Hill Train station was the Junction Diner where I used to go as a teenager too. Then of course Jahn's and that Italian Restaurant on the other side of the old RKO Keith's Movie Theater. That Movie Theater is amazing inside, it's been closed since the 1960's but it's like a time warp and a diamond in the rough. It's a flea market/Bingo Hall now but everything is all still there (except for the seats), even the blackened dust filled crystal chandeliers still hang. It's been painted all light off white inside, but until the 90's, it even had the old ornate paint job on the walls. Interesting place. |

Howard Beach is nothing like Shirley in my opinion. It's sort of a Guido 'Jersey Shore" type of people there, and while Shirley is far from "high class", it's not "Guido". Shirley is better than Mastic which is better than Mastic Beach. Trailers are illegal in Brookhaven Town of which Shirley, Mastic, and Mastic Beach are in, but if they were legal, I would classify Mastic Beach as the "Trailer Park" stigma. |

I hear that Bensonhurst has cooled down in the past couple of years, but the racism in Howard Beach is still going strong, and unreported incidents happen there all the time if what I've been told is correct, especially towards neighboring East New York kids & black people shopping at the nice strip they have on Cross Bay Boulevard. |

That's hands down the most rundown park in the city, even in Brownsville the parks are taken better care of, maybe it's because most of the Park Department's employees are black. The house in the third photo owns roosters that sometimes get out on the street. Yup I was greeted by them walking down the street when I arrived there. They were cool but apparently they aren't photogenic as they were spooked when I reached in my pocket to take a photo of them. |

I don't wave the flag anyway.No I just know thought that you're very patriotic based on your posts here. We had a thread on that park last year. I complained about the broken shells. Turns out the birds drop them to crack them open. There is some graffiti. Not much broken glass. I wish those white spots I saw on the ground were just shells dropped by birds, that playground was disgusting and it's pretty obvious that drunk teenagers trash it at night. |

I didn't see any non-white fishers there, I did see one with a mullet though which I'd never thought I'd see someone wearing in New York City, let alone in 2011, definitely an eye-opening experience going over there. The beach was nice, I wouldn't swim there, but it had great views as you can see here:

Also, have you heard of Cross Bay Blvd? There's a big bridge there that spans the bay. It's in Howard Beach, just blocks from Gotti's house. The people who fist there are mostly people of color. |
