Hillary Clinton: "The Egyptian government has to understand that violence will not make thse grievances go away."Following the uprising in Tunisia, people all over the North African region are becoming restive, and tired of historically repressive regimes in countries like Egypt, Yemen, and Tunisia. In a related development, the House of Saud has released a statement saying it is watching developments in Egypt and Tunisis "with great concern". On that, you can bet real money. |

Read a bit about how nearly half of all Egyptians live on less than $2 a day, and how Mubarak has been one of the most repressive rulers in Egypt's history. Read about how corruption runs rampant in Egyptian government. IMHO, the Egyptian people have a very legitimate set of grievances. |

I agree with that too, but the current government caused this too, as they were terribly oppressive. They HAVE to be oppressive to ward off the hateful nutbags. Look at what happened to the Palestinian Authority when Abbas allowed free elections. Hamas won!! Then they overran his forces in Gaza. Arafat was mowing them down in Gaza back in the 90's. He knew what was up and kept them down. I'll take the secular and pragmatic tyrant over these crazies any day. Egypt has been at peace with Israel for a third of a century and Christians have largely been able to practice their religion freely thanks to people like Sadat and Mubarak to the chagrin of these "protesters". He needs to smash them and execute the main instigators. Egypt is not America or Europe. There will not be any "democracy" if Mubarak falls. The only thing these "rage boys": understand is a fist in their face and a bullet through their head. I don't say this out of meanness or bloodthirstiness. It's just the way it is. |
