Egyptian Cleric Threatens Egypt's Copts with Genocide

by Raymond Ibrahim
December 28, 2012 at 4:00 am
"The day Egyptians…feel you are against them, you will be wiped off the face of the Earth." — Dr. Wagdi Goneim
Islamic leaders continue to portray the popular protests against President Morsi and his recently passed Sharia-heavy constitution as products of Egypt's Christians. Recently, Muslim Brotherhood leader Safwat Hegazy said in an open rally, as captured on video:
A message to the church of Egypt, from an Egyptian Muslim: I tell the church — by Allah, and again, by Allah — if you conspire and unite with the remnants [opposition] to bring Morsi down, that will be another matter…. our red line is the legitimacy of Dr. Muhammad Morsi. Whoever splashes water on it, we will splash blood on him."
More recently, Dr. Wagdi Ghoneim — who earlier praised Allah for the death of the late Coptic Pope Shenouda, cursing him to hell and damnation on video — made another video, entitled, "A Notice and Warning to the Crusaders in Egypt," a reference to the nation's Copts, which he began by saying, "You are playing with fire in Egypt, I swear, the first people to be burned by the fire are you [Copts]." The video was made in the context of the Tahrir protests against Morsi: Islamic leaders, such as Hegazy and Ghoneim, seek to portray the Copts as dominant elements in those protests; according to them, no real Muslim would participate. Ghoneim even went on to say that most of the people at the protests were Copts, "and we know you hid your [wrist] crosses by lowering your sleeves."

The heart of Ghoneim's message was genocidal: "The day Egyptians — and I don't even mean the Muslim Brotherhood or Salafis, regular Egyptians — feel that you are against them, you will be wiped off the face of the earth. I'm warning you now: do not play with fire!"

Along with trying to incite Egypt's Muslims against the Copts, and threatening them with annihilation, Ghoneim made other telling assertions, including:
  • Addressing the Christians of Egypt as "Crusaders," once again showing Islam's simplistic, black-and-white vision, which clumps all Christians — of all nations, past and present, regardless of historical context and denomination — as one, in accordance with an Islamic tradition that states "All infidels are one religion."

  • Comparing Christian Copts to animals: "Respect yourselves and live with us and we will protect you… Why?… because Allah has forbidden me to be cruel to animals. I'm not trying to compare you to animals … but if I am not cruel to animals or plants, shall I be cruel to a soul created by Allah? You are an infidel in Allah's sight — and it is for him to judge you. However, when you live in my country, it is forbidden for me to be unjust to you — but that doesn't mean we are equal. No, oh no."

  • Telling Copts: "I want to remind you that Egypt is a Muslim country.… if you don't like the Muslim Sharia, you have eight countries that have a Cross on their flag [in Europe], so go to them. However, if you want to stay here in Egypt with us, know your place and be respectful. You already have all your rights — by Allah, even more than Muslims… No one investigates your homes, no one investigates your churches. In fact, in the past, the Islamic groups used to fake their IDs and put Christian names on them when they would go out for [jihadi] operations, so that when the police would catch them, they would see they are Christians and be left alone." Ghoneim misses the irony of what he says: Police know that Egyptian Christians are not going to engage in terror; Egyptian Muslims are suspect.

  • Saying, in mocking tones, towards the end: "What do you think — that America will protect you? Let's be very clear, America will not protect you. If so, it would have protected the Christians of Iraq when they were being butchered!" — a reference to the fact that, after the U.S. ousted Saddam Hussein, half of Iraq's Christian population has either been butchered or fled the nation, and all under U.S. auspices.
Claiming that the Copts are only four million while the Muslims are 85 million — even as Coptic Orthodox Church registries maintain that there are more than 15 million Copts, and most outside analysts say 10 million — and adding that Morsi was only being nice by saying, as he did during one of his speeches: "There are no minorities in Egypt." Ghoneim fails to explain, if Copts are so few — four million compared to 85 million — how could they be so influential, and flood the Tahrir protests with such large numbers?

Mocking new Coptic Pope Tawadros — not surprising considering his great hate for the former Pope — by claiming that the new Pope urged Copts to protest; that the new Pope wants to see Morsi and Sharia law fall, and by adding, "Is it not enough that you have all those monasteries?"

They used to do the jizya thing, however considering these are the guys who wants to blow up the pyramids, I doubt tourism is their goal.

They've succeeded in so many countries, they may as well not even monitor this and get ready to claim there were never christians.
Just like that intifada nyc high school who converted the famous poet after death.

If there's been a sudden increase in dollars sold, it generally means some event is occurring or about to occur. Since the biggest financial event is the fiscal cliff, it would make sense that would spook the markets, especially since we are once again demonstrating the dysfunctionality of our government.

Egypt Revolts; MB deputy head says Israel will cease to exist by 2020

Morsi Aide: Israel Will Cease to Exist Within Decade

Date Posted: 2013-01-02 04:21:22
Deputy head of the Muslim Brotherhood's political arm in Egypt, the Freedom and Justice Party, announced Tuesday that Israel would cease to exist by the end of the decade.

Essam el-Erian, who serves an adviser to Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi, had attempted to dispel a recent controversy over comments he made in an interview last week, in which he invited Egyptian born Jews to return to the country.

In an interview with the Saudi-backed newspaper Al-Sharq al-Awsat, Erian said that the "ideology of Zionism" had ended in failure and denounced Israel as "Palestine's occupiers."

"Jewish occupiers of the territory of historic Palestine are an obstacle to the Palestinians' right of return," he said. "Anyone who can read the future can see that this project has a decade, less than a decade to go, and it is our faith that the people of Palestine can then return to Palestine."

"There will be no such thing as Israel," he continued, "instead there will be Palestine which will be home to Jews, Muslims and Druze and all the people who were there from the start."

"Those who want to stay will stay as Palestinian citizens. Those who conquered Palestine will have to go back to their countries," he added.

On Thursday, el-Erian sparked controversy by stating that, "Every Egyptian has a right to return especially if he is making room for a Palestinian. I want to enable the Palestinians to return to their land," he said. "I call upon the Jews, Egypt is worthier of you than Israel."

All but a handful of the Egyptian Jewish community, which once amounted to a approximately 80,000, left the country after the Israel-Egypt wars of 1948, 1956 and 1967—the majority of whom returned to Israel.

Egypt Revolts; Morsi says he won't have peace with "descendants of apes and pigs" (2010 interview)

Morsi in 2010: No peace with descendants of apes and pigs

By JPOST.COM STAFF | 01/04/2013 16:34

Newly translated interviews by MEMRI show Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi opposing two-state solution, saying "Either [you accept] the Zionists and everything they want, or else it is war."

Israeli-Palestinian negotiations are "a waste of time and opportunities" as Arabs and Muslims get nothing out of engagement with "the descendants of apes and pigs," current Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi asserted in September 2010, according to newly translated interviews published this week by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).

In the first interview, aired on Lebanon's Al-Quds TV on September 23, 2010, Morsi denounced the Palestinian Authority as a creation of "the Zionist and American enemies for the sole purpose of opposing the will of the Palestinian people." Therefore, he stressed, "No reasonable person can expect any progress on this track."

"Either [you accept] the Zionists and everything they want, or else it is war," Morsi said, "This is what these occupiers of the land of Palestine know – these blood-suckers, who attack the Palestinians, these warmongers, the descendants of apes and pigs."

In the result, according to MEMRI, Morsi called on Arabs and Muslims worldwide to "employ all forms of resistance against...those criminal Zionists, who attack Palestine and the Palestinians."

"Pressure should be exerted upon them," Morsi continued, so that Jews should "not be given any opportunity [to] stand on any Arab or Islamic land."

In a separate interview translated by MEMRI, aired on the same network on March 20, 2010, Morsi affirmed that "The Zionists have no right to the land of Palestine.... What they took before 1947-8 constitutes plundering, and what they are doing now is a continuation of this plundering. By no means do we recognize their Green Line. The land of Palestine belongs to the Palestinians, not to the Zionists."

He therefore called on the Islamic world "to confront this Zionist entity" and to severe "all ties of all kinds...with this plundering criminal entity," including a total boycott of Israel and the avoidance of "normalization of relations with it."

Morsi concluded that the Arab-Islamic world "want[s] a country for the Palestinians on the entire land of Palestine...[and] all the talk about a two-state solution and about peace is nothing but an illusion."

The Jews, he said, "have been fanning the flames of civil strife wherever they were throughout history. They are hostile by nature.... The Zionists understood nothing but the language of force."

Making fun of Morsi becomes riskier in Egypt

Date: 05.01.2013
Author: Fouad EL-Auwad / cd
Editor: Ben Knight

Egyptians love to have a good laugh. Since the fall of Hosni Mubarak they've relished the fact that they can now voice their humor publicly. As it turns out, though, they might not be able to do so with impunity.

Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak was the subject of many an unkind word before his fall. Though the jokes were usually told in trusted circles only, they were known to many, and fear of reprisal engendered inventiveness. To avoid mentioning Mubarak by name, the president was called "la vache qui rit" ("the laughing cow"), a reference to a type of French cheese.

The fear only disappeared with the advent of the revolution. Today, political satire can be found in the media, on the Internet, on social networks or even on protestors' signs at demonstrations.

Morsi and satire

Egyptians are known for their humor, wit, and their ironic self-deprecation. Even at Tahrir Square, in the midst of the revolution, there were signs that read: "Mubarak, out! My wife's having a baby, but it refuses to be born as long as you're president!"

Nor is the new president being spared. Mohamed Morsi is a beloved subject for caricature and satire. The broadest target is Morsi's religiously-tinged policies and the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood on his political and economic decisions.

After Morsi's first speech before the presidential vote — a speech in which he clarified his political platform — jokes about his speech rippled through the media.

On Facebook, someone posted the joke: "After 100 days in office, the president holds a speech before his people. In it, Morsi speaks of the poor economic conditions of his land and promises, 'By God, since I began governing not one cent has gone into my own pocket.' The people answer. 'Mr. President, it's the same for us!'"

Some satirists render Morsi as something of a new "pharaoh" due to his attempts to consolidate the judiciary and legislative powers under his own executive control. The pharaoh reference is unflattering, particularly since Mubarak was popularly called a pharaoh as well.

Another common joke on the street is this: "A guy asks his friend, 'Have you seen that the pharaoh is risen again?' 'You don't say,' the friend replies. 'You mean the one that the Salafists are pulling around by the nose?'"

Religious influence in everyday life

The fear that religion could play a dominant role in the day-to-day lives of Egyptians is also greeted with humor. Many religion-themed jokes have been circulating on Facebook: "Job listing for a public television channel: Presenter — no older than 20 — with at least 21 years' experience wearing head scarves."

Another entry reads: "On the highway from Alexandria to Cairo, a man is stopped by the traffic police for driving over the speed limit. He shows his license and registration and asks the officer how much the fine will be. The police officer laughs: 'Brother, those kinds of fines belong to the past. That's from Mubarak's time.' The driver then asks, 'And how is it with Morsi?' 'Oh, it's enough if you cite a Surah (a chapter of the Koran). God will forgive your act,' the policeman answers."

The political influence of the Muslim Brotherhood and its holy guide, the "Murshid," is well known to Egyptians. Reactions to the perception that Morsi is a puppet of the Murshid can be seen on satire sites all over the Internet. One cartoon shows Morsi giving a speech to the people while holding a scrap of paper in his hand, murmuring, "Before I speak any gibberish and annoy the Murshid, I prefer to learn the text by heart."

Others mock the results of the revolution against Mubarak's rule in Egypt. One particular joke has spread across Facebook: "Dear revolutionaries, we now know the true reason for our revolution against Mubarak. He didn't pray publicly and didn't rule according to the Sharia."

The consequences of humor

For his supporters, Morsi is a religious leader as well as a political one, and his critics are insulted as blasphemers. Caricaturists, satirists, journalists, and actors have even been brought to trial.

Newspapers recently reported that the attorney general had ordered an investigation into an accusation made against well-known TV presenter Basem Yusuf. The charge is that, on his show on a private television channel, Yusuf accused Morsi of aspiring to dictatorship. A lawyer belonging to an Islamist party interpreted the moderator's joke as an insult to the president and filed suit.

The comedian and actor Adel Imam was also charged with blasphemy for some of the films and stage shows in which he criticized Islamic radicalism.

Many still believe in their newly-won freedom, and hope that the Arab spring will bring a political shift. But many also fear that Mubarak's dictatorship might be replaced by a religious one.

Yet one thing Egyptians will preserve is their sense of humor.

Re: Egypt Revolts! Egypt’s Christians worried by Islamists’ rise

This is working out so well if you are a Coptic Christian, isn't it? And what about for the Egyptian Jews? Oh wait, never mind, there are hardly any left...

Egypt’s Christians worried by Islamists’ rise
By Abigail Hauslohner, Tuesday, January 8, 2:37 AM

GIZA, Egypt — Egypt’s Christians were worried about their safety on Monday as they marked the first Christmas under Islamist rule, with Coptic Pope Tawadros II urging worshipers “not to be afraid” and some complaining that their lives had gone from bad to worse in the nearly two years since the ouster of Hosni Mubarak.

At St. Mary’s Church in the dense and religiously mixed neighborhood of Imbaba, where sectarian clashes have flared before, midnight Mass on Christmas Eve started early because of safety concerns. The church, which was torched by an Islamist mob in 2011, was protected Sunday by a larger police presence than in past years, a signal to some that the Islamist government wanted to avoid trouble after political clashes flared last month on Egypt’s streets.

Many Christians, who make up roughly 10 percent of Egypt’s 85 million people, have joined with liberals in complaining that the country’s new constitution, ratified last month, sets the stage for a broader implementation of Islamic law. Although Copts had complained of marginalization and discrimination under Mubarak, many accuse President Mohamed Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood allies of hijacking the country and seeking to exclude Christians entirely.

But some Christians said Egypt’s tumultuous transition also has rendered a long-silent community more politicized. With parliamentary elections expected in a few months, they say they are going to keep pushing for their rights to counter the Islamists’ rise.

The confrontation last month between Islamists and Egypt’s fractured liberal opposition over the character of the new constitution drew scores of Christian protesters.

It wasn’t the first time that the Copts had demonstrated against Egypt’s emerging status quo. Hundreds of protesters camped in downtown Cairo after a wave of sectarian clashes in 2011, but now many say they have felt emboldened by the vastness of the emerging opposition.

“The Muslim Brotherhood may have forced the constitution on the people, but they will not be able to force Egypt to stay silent,” said Mena Girgis, a 22-year-old university student and activist. “I don’t think they can come close to the Christians at the moment. They’re worried about their reputation to the world — that it will be even shakier than it was before.”

Morsi and Mohammed Badie, the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, issued separate statements Sunday to wish Egyptian Christians a merry holiday. Many Eastern Orthodox churches in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa celebrate Christmas on Jan. 7.

In his Mass, Tawadros appealed for unity but also told congregants, “Even if humans feel lots of fear, remember, God will take care of you. This is a collective message because fear is contagious. . . . This is a message of reassurance.”

Egypt’s military claimed on its Facebook page Monday that its troops had foiled an attempted church bombing near the country’s border with the Gaza Strip on Sunday night. But it was not clear from local media reports whether a car found laden with guns and ammunition in the restive border town of Rafah had meant to target an unused church or whether it may have been directed at a military base, both located nearby.

At St. Mary’s, where memories of mob violence are still fresh, Christmas Eve Mass ended early “to ensure that people get home safely,” said Youssef al-Qumos, a pathologist and churchgoer.

The most violent sectarian clashes of the past two years occurred during the period of military rule after Mubarak’s ouster — and, in one instance, at the hands of the armed forces. But for many, Islamist rule spells far deeper conflicts on the horizon.

Rising Islamism has spurred tense exchanges and sporadic violence in mixed communities across Egypt in recent months. “Even those who have nothing to do with anything are growing beards now,” said Magdy, a Christian bureaucrat in the village of Sanhour in rural Fayoum province.

The residents of Sanhour have been luckier than those of some other towns south of Cairo, Magdy added, because they have yet to see an attack on Christians. But he declined to give his last name for fear of reprisal. “Any word spoken by a Christian is judged,” he said. “It’s calm here. But it’s the future that we worry about.”

Last week, fundamentalist Islamists known as Salafists re-published old fatwas warning Muslims against fraternizing with Christians on their holiday. A shadowy Salafist group in the city of Suez vowed to shut down any New Year celebrations. And rumors of a grass-roots Salafist morality force that is planning to mob churches and force conversions have put many Christians on edge.

“They repeated that on a lot of satellite channels, and we don’t know if it’s true or false,” Nahed Adly, a dentist in Cairo who attended Mass at St. Mary’s, said of the rumors.

“My reading is that they’re waiting till the election, till they get everything. And when they’re done taking over all the seats of power, then they can focus on us,” she said.

Ingy Hassieb and Sharaf al-Hourani in Cairo contributed to this report.

Newly Released Morsi Video: Nurse Children on Hatred of Jews

MEMRI releases another video which depicts Egyptian Mohammed Morsi making anti-Semitic comments.

By Elad Benari
First Publish: 1/17/2013, 6:12 AM
As Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi said that virulent anti-Semitic comments which he reportedly said prior to his election were taken out of context, the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) released another video which depicts him making similar comments.

The latest video is an address delivered by Morsi, which was posted on the Internet on January 10, 2010. It was translated by MEMRI and published on Wednesday.

In the newly exposed remarks, Morsi calls U.S. President Barack Obama “insincere” and calls for Arabs to raise their children on hatred of Jews.

“One American president after another — and most recently, that Obama — talks about American guarantees for the safety of the Zionists in Palestine,” Morsi said. [Obama] was very clear when he uttered his empty words on the land of Egypt. He uttered many lies, of which he couldn’t have fulfilled a single word, even if he were sincere — which he is not.

“Dear brothers, we must not forget to nurse our children and grandchildren on hatred towards those Zionists and Jews, and all those who support them,” he added. “They must be nursed on hatred. The hatred must continue.”

The earlier video released by MEMRI shows that Morsi, also in 2010, rejected negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority and referred to Jews as “apes and pigs.”

The United States later condemned those remarks and urged Morsi to immediately clarify his views.

Exclusive: Morsy implies Jews control the American media

Posted By Josh Rogin
Wednesday, January 23, 2013 | 1:20 PM
Last week in Cairo, seven U.S. senators had a highly contentious meeting with Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy during which the Muslim Brotherhood leader implied that he was the victim of an American media run by the Jews.

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) led a delegation last week to Egypt, Jordan, Israel, and Afghanistan that included Sens. Chris Coons (D-DE), Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and Kirsten Gilibrand (D-NY). Their stop in Cairo included a 90-minute meeting with Morsy that devolved into an uncomfortable set of exchanges as the senators pressed the Egyptian president to explain his 2010 comments describing Jews as "bloodsuckers who attack Palestinians" as well as "the descendants of apes and pigs."

After the meeting, McCain issued a statement saying that the senators "voiced our strong disapproval of the statement" and that the senators and Morsy "had a constructive discussion on this subject." Morsy's spokesman issued a statement after the meeting saying that Morsy believed in religious freedom and "the need to distinguish between the Jewish religion, and those who belong to it, and violent actions against defenseless Palestinians."

But inside the meeting, the discussion over Morsy's 2010 remarks was much more heated than either side publicly acknowledged afterwards, according to Coons. Addressing the comments was the first item on the senators' agenda, and the discussion did not go well, he told The Cable in an interview.

"We tried to give President Morsy an opportunity, now that he is the president, to put his comments in a different context because he was claiming that he was taken out of context. On their face they seemed to be very offensive and inappropriate," Coons said. "It was a difficult conversation."

Morsy told the senators that the values of Islam teach respect for Christianity and Judaism, and he asserted repeatedly that he had no negative views about Judaism or the Jewish people, but then followed with a diatribe about Israel and Zionist actions against Palestinians, especially in Gaza.

Then Morsy crossed a line and made a comment that made the senators physically recoil in their chairs in shock, Coons said.

"He was attempting to explain himself ... then he said, ‘Well, I think we all know that the media in the United States has made a big deal of this and we know the media of the United States is controlled by certain forces and they don't view me favorably,'" Coons said.

The Cable asked Coons if Morsy specifically named the Jews as the forces that control the American media. Coons said all the senators believed the implication was obvious.

"He did not say [the Jews], but I watched as the other senators physically recoiled, as did I," he said. "I thought it was impossible to draw any other conclusion."

"The meeting then took a very sharply negative turn for some time. It really threatened to cause the entire meeting to come apart so that we could not continue," Coons said.

Multiple senators impressed upon Morsy that if he was saying the criticisms of his comments were due to the Jews in the media, that statement was potentially even more offensive than his original comments from 2010.

"[Morsi] did not say the Jewish community was making a big deal of this, but he said something [to the effect] that the only conclusion you could read was that he was implying it," Coons said. "The conversation got so heated that eventually Senator McCain said to the group, ‘OK, we've pressed him as hard as we can while being in the boundaries of diplomacy,'" Coons said. "We then went on to discuss a whole range of other topics."

Coons stressed that the rest of the meeting was constructive and the Morsy meeting was only one compenent of a visit to Cairo that included meeting with Prime Minister Hesham Mohamed Qandil, Defense Minister Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi, and political opposition leaders including Amr Moussa and Mohamed ElBaradei.

Morsy and the senators also discussed the peace treaty with Israel, the plight of American NGOs in Egypt, the security situation in the Sinai, various ways to help Egypt's economy, the crisis in Syria, Iran, and several other topics. The senators and Morsy all agreed that the U.S.-Egypt relationship was crucial and that U.S. aid to Egypt was an important piece of maintaining that relationship as long as Egypt continues progressing toward democracy.

"I appreciate that he respects and understands the vital importance of the U.S-Egyptian relationship, but clearly there is a lot of work to be done before we can feel comfortable that he respects American values," Coons said. "Securing a positive relationship going forward is important and in America's national interest, but we also cannot stand by and tolerate bigotry and hatred by foreign leaders."

And Chamberlain honestly believed (or at least fervently hoped) that all Hitler really wanted was to have ethnic German areas in Europe ruled by Germany.

The word "offensive" is used three times in the article. Talk about mincing words; this is about much more than hurt feelings. How many Jews do you really think are bothered simply because Morsi compared them to animals.
