East LA/Boyle Heights photos |
|
Posted by Easy on Sat Nov 21 21:49:17 2009 I walked from Mariachi Plaza to Soto Station and took a few shots along 1st street. Boyle Heights is a really cool neighborhood and I predict that the new rail line will lead to rapid gentrification, which quite frankly will be a good thing. Most of 1st street looks like this. The main retail area for Boyle Heights is on Cesar Chavez (2 blocks north). 1st Street is somewhat busy, but not very. Artwork on a music store. Ok. That's it. That's pretty much what Boyle Heights looks like. :) Freeways have really harmed the neighborhoods. On one side of the freeway is this. Then the freeway. And then this. Where Brooklyn at? Tiny parking lot by LA standards. Or anyones standards. What's wrong with this content? Tiny but cool park where old guys come and play chess. |

I guess that's true.Post offices in the outer boroughs don't have parking? I was surprised by some of the pics here and on links to street view that parts of the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens look much more suburban than I imagined. It's not all a concrete jungle despite the high overall density. |

The only one in the southern Brooklyn area that has parking is Coney Island. Which is denser than places like Marine Park where they don't have parking.View Larger Map The entrance is on the other side where there's no street view. |

The best burrito that I ever ate was at a liquor store that specialized in carnitas. Mexican food is not my favorite, but I'm getting hungry just thinking about those burritos. Unfortunately they sold out and a "real" restaurant of the same name was opened next door. Twice the money and not even half as good. |

Not sure if he was a recent runaway or feral. He seemed friendly, so I'd guess runaway. That Piolin guy might have as many billboards as all of the rest of LA's radio personalities combined.
