This creature is not a raccoon. No doubt some people here do know what it is . . .

Did you see them in the daytime or after dark? Racoons are nocturnal animals. If you see them in the daytime keep your distance. They might be sick or worse be rabid. I remember living in Beacon my neighbor saw a few racoons in their backyard in broad daylight. She called the cops. Beacon cops came with weapons drawn in the event of an attack. A rabid animal just might do that.
No gunfire happened and the racoons got clean away. As a one time city boy, thats when I learned about staying clear away if you see a racoon in the daytime, especially in an urban setting.

What about the raccoons in Central Park the tourists feed during the day. And pet and scratch. It’s so bad the parks Jerry Seinfeld’s cousin Jeffrey put up signs pleading with the populace to stop feeding them because they are getting too fat.

Its still wise to keep your distance, especially if there have been reports of rabid racoons or other rabid wildlife in the area.

Nope. The wolverine is more closely related to the raccoon than the creature in my pic is.

It's a tanuki, aka a Japanese raccoon dog. Closely related to foxes.

Those raccoons will scare the cats away. Cats - Destroyer of Birds - can climb trees and then kill the baby birds that are holding onto each other in fear trying to figure out what to do because they cannot fly away or fight back. I do not like cats. No!

No, raccoons do not scare cats away. I recall a neighbor who fed stray cats, and when raccoons came to eat, the cats hung around and watched.

I am reading Shakespeare. In the tragedy of Macbeth, there is a passage about owls killing birds. That may well be true, I do not know, but I do know this... owls are strong, owls have acute vision, and owls fly quietly in the night. My point is those baby songbirds have no chance and it was too late for them a long time ago. I do not blame the owl because the owl does not know what it is doing. On the other hand, the cat kills purely out of spite and that is a fact. It massacres the songbird but leaves it alone and then goes away to kill again for no reason. I do not like cats, the Destroyer of Songbirds.

Actually, the passage in Macbeth mentions wrens defending their nests against owls. And there's another passage describing a falcon being killed by an owl, which is an unnatural scenario. Otherwise, the owl's vocalization is a harbinger of death.

Cats have been demonized by leftists for decades with respect to songbirds, which actually reproduce rapidly. Lots of predators don't eat their kill if they have enough to eat, but their instincts are triggered by movement and other creatures can feed on their kills.

I was taking artistic license. Your post is accurate as I read both passages, the wren just this morning. I am reading The Arden Shakespeare which is generally understood to be the most detailed in its scholarship of all the editions. I have six works by Shakespeare from that publisher (Bloomsbury) and six works from the New Cambridge Shakespeare. The Arden has copious footnotes both critical commentary and textual analysis. I recall a footnote even states the wren is relatively small but not the most "diminutive" bird in Scotland as was implied by The Lady... that is the level of detail I refer. I am immersing myself in Macbeth by having read Preface, Foreword, Prologue, Introduction, the play, and once I finish next week I plan to read the initial appendix but not the other appendices which discuss stage directions and further reading references. My next readings will probably cover slightly less material since I am learning the "how to" of reading Shakespeare.

Someday I want to take in a performance at either Shakespeare in the Park or the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. I like this image of the Three Witches ("Weird Sisters") and Macbeth from a renowned Polish Shakespearean company:
