I completely lost my voice. I did it to myself though, I was resheetrocking, and began sanding a bit without a mask on (dumb, dumb). Anyway, everytime I coughed, I got the taste of spackle in my throat.Thankfully, it went away in a week. I forgot what I used, but I think apple cider vinegar (straight) helped quite a but. It was hard to drink straight (yuck), but it made my voice come back , at least temporarily. |

In (just about) any other profession, laryngitis is an annoyance. In mine, it's debilitating. And it had to happen on a Monday!(And, on the flip side, I could be running a severe fever, but as long as I could speak, I'd probably feel obligated to show up at work anyway.) |

Trust me, the apple cider vinegar really works, it'll make you feel a lot better, and it will help your voice, even if temporarily. Garggle with it before you swallow too.Out of all the remedies I read about (I think I did a google search to find out about the apple vinegar), it worked the best. It certainly worked for me. Again, it's not a miracle remedy, but it may be the difference between not being able to talk at all (like what happened to me), and at least talking a bit for a little while. In my job, I am on the phone a lot, so it was a lifesaver for at least a fraction of a productive work day anyway. |

I usually like to get chicken rice or chicken noodle soup from a Chinese Restaurant when I have a cold. For some reason, their broth always makes me feel better when sick. I don't know if it will help with you laryngitis though, but at least it may make you feel better. Now the real question....how do you make chicken soup by accident? |

Chicken soup is the standard Jewish remedy for, well, everything. Only problem is that I'm feeling perfectly fine -- I just have no voice.I had store-bought soup. I finished half of it on Friday night. I also had homemade chicken. There was a lot of juice in the bottom of the pan, and I didn't want it to go to waste. So I dumped it in with the leftover soup. Even after watering it down, I was left with a very strong (but tasty) chicken soup. I watered it down a bit more before putting away the rest. (If I keep this up, this soup will last forever!) |

There was a lot of juice in the bottom of the pan, and I didn't want it to go to waste.Ah yes, that is good. When I roast a chicken, the juices are the best part. I usually make a gravy out of it, but soup is not a bad idea! Yeah, since my laryngitis was sort of self induced (through stupidity), I also felt fine, but just lost my voice. It was a strange case of laryngitis, as anytime I had it before, (I get it once every four years or so) it was always a cold or something that caused it. I was a bit worried with the plaster dust induced case I had back in Jan, as I didn't know if it would go away by itself, but I guess it did after the plaster dust disipated. |

You could always prepare notes and give out an assignment that way, so that when class reconvenes you can cover the material more quickly since they've had a chance to look at it already. (That of course assumes that they'll look at what you send, rather than use the cancelled class as an opportunity to catch up on social affairs...) |

I had just thought of an idea this afternoon - you could bring in a computer and a projector, and type what you want to say so that it can be read on screen.Assuming you type fairly well, you could get far this way. You couldn't type nearly as fast as you can speak, but by choosing your words you can write enough to get the point across. |
