ERJs are awesome for that. I like 2A because there aren't seats across the aisle either, and unlike 1A there's under seat storage and the bin space isn't used by the crew.

Of course the best window/aisle seat I've ever gotten was 5A on this 777-300 flying back from Tokyo last week.

Bulkhead in front, window to immediate left, table to the right, and only one row behind me before yet another bulkhead. The most private non-first class seat possible. Only downside was a very long walk when the closest bathroom was in use and they were busy preparing food in the galley crosspath.

Looks nice but where was the snack tray? I hate those armrest deals. Also, on our Dornier, if you are in 2A or 1D & F, with bulkheads in front, you must wear a shoulder harness.

Dornier, quite nice! I think I would be happy to endure a shoulder harness were that the case.

Snack tray was directly in front and slides forward out from under the TV screen, all seats in that class have this setup. View from the seat:
5A-fromseat

Since it was the bulkhead seat there was no side table for the row in front, so I could throw stuff on top of the TV instead of having to awkwardly share foot space with it. The 5H and 7H seat has a similar advantage where they get a second side table where the next row's K seat person would have been sitting were it not a bulkhead row:

7H

Downside to those seats is being too far from the window for it to be of any use.

Anyone ever fly in a Convair 880 or 990?

Myself, the only non-Boeing/McDonnell-Douglas or Airbus jets I flew in were the Lockheed L-1011, BAC 111, BAe (originally HS) 146 and Embraer 190.

I was on an Air Canada DC8 back in the 1970s. Don't know how well they were keeping up with maintenance, because the thing rattled on takeoff and landing.

I flew back from Buffalo on a Folker F-60 IIRC. Lousy plane. No slats so it was unstable in less than minimal weather.

The DC-8 is one classic airliner I missed out on. I was lucky enough to have 2 flights on a 707

4/25/73 ORD-IAH on AA
5/16/75 JFK-ORD on TW

Ironically, both return flights were on 727s. JFK-ORD seemed to be a short hop for a 707, I suspect that the plane continued to the west coast (LAX or SFO). Based on the time we arrived in Chicago, there was enough time for a late arrival at LAX/SFO, gaining 2 hours.

That is officially way cool. I've seen the first class section on my airline of choice (ANA) only because they sometimes allow the "right" aisle (when facing forward) of the plane to deplane through the L1 door while the "left" aisle deplanes through L2. I will admit I try to choose seat G, H or K just to get those sweet few seconds in 1st on the way out...
