Cap corporate profits at 50 percent. Profits in the thousand-percent margin (which have been going on since the "outsourcing" started decades ago) are beyond the pale.

It'll be an extremely hard sell because, as I've mentioned before, we're going in the opposite way. People are retiring at younger and younger ages notwithstanding increased life expectancy and Social Security's woes. You might say that 55 is becoming the new 65, in other words the standard retirement age. Should present trends continue I wouldn't be altogether surprised to see retirement at 50 becoming commonplace.

Many of those who are "retiring" at 55 today will find themselves back in the work force in a few years. Most Americans -- and especially the baby boomers -- are quite unprepared to retire at 55 (or even 65 or 70).

The UAE is a model? Does that mean that you're going to start flying planes into American skyscrapers . . . ?

The government of the Emirates almost certainly is more frightened of Islamic fundamentalism than is the United States. It is essentially impossible to come up with a scenario in which the United States becomes an Islamic fundamentalist regime. As the old saying goes, Islamic fundamentalists are quite effective at bringing fellow Muslims back into the fold but are total flops when it comes to converting outsiders, whether voluntarily or by force. On the other hand, it is not at all difficult to imagine the Emirates succumbing to Taliban-style fundamentalism, most likely in Domino Effect fashion following the fall of Saudi Arabia.

My two cents:

Stem Cell Research- pro
Gun Control- Neutral
Abortion Choice- Pro(but against abortion, neither myself or my government has a right to tell others what to do with their body though)
Federal Healthcare- anti, but support any effort to reduce health costs
Port Sale- anti- it come really come back to haunt us one day
Social Security Reform- Pro, but sweeten the alternative savings plans
Morning After- Pro
Gay Marriage- anti(same as abortion, against the idea, but more against governmental intervention to stop it, we have more serious stuff to worry about!)
Public Smoking Ban- Pro, must continue to be phased in like it has been, untill smokers literally have no where in public to smoke
Patriot Act- Pro, but needs to be heavily monitored
Creation In Schools- Anti
Motorcycle Helmets- Pro

But Clinton's "surplus" was also likely a deficit when you net out the Social Security intake.

BTW -- was "Clinton's surplus" actually "Newt's surplus"? After all, the budget didn't move towards being balanced until after 1994.

Sorry, haven't had the opportunity to piss you off in a while. Figured you were due for one.
