The reporter in the link, Erin Maloney, clearly states it was a scary emergency landing and she is absolutely right. Those passengers have no idea just how close they came...

As for the 787, that thing is dangerous. Check this clip out of the initial flight and you can clearly see something that looks like a piece of rope and a little ball trailing off the top of the tail. Somebody told me pilots refer to that debris as FOD (Foreign Object Damage) but apparently it got stuck on the tail and the airplane took off before anybody could get it. Speaking of rope, I wonder if the engine surge in New Mexico was caused by a little piece of rope you sometimes see wrapped around the cone in engine intakes. Unreal.
