On a personal level, a story about the day my wife died. It was on a Saturday morning, We were together discussing what we were going to do with the day as in what store to go to.It was a toss-up between going to Walmart or a local grocery chain called Kuhns. Suddenly she says to me "I dont feel right" I say whats wrong? She says " I'dont know, I've been running around this morning with doing laundry, I just feel exhausted". I say ok sit down, catch your breath & I'll be upstairs at my computer for a few minutes & will be back down here soon then we can take off. So about 5 -10 minutes laterI come downstairs and she's on her back on the living room floor not breathing, no pulse turning blue. NO screams, no calling out, nothing. I call 911. I'm not trained in CPR so the 911 operator (God Bless Them) talked me thru the procedure, ten chest compressions then some mouth to mouth and repeat. Then the EMTs show up and work on her for about an half hour. They couldnt get her back. An autopsy showed that she had 90% blockage in her coronary and corrected artery. The DC said that she died from fatal arrythmia. I've been struggling, to this day about the "what If's " What If I didn't go upstairs at that specific moment?" or did I do the CPR right?" thinking somehow I'm partly responsible for her death. I've been told, based on the autopsy findings, that she could have fell out in a hospital lobby and the result would be the same. So in my mind what else are going to say...like , yeah Jimmy, you fucked up. She'd still be alive if you did the CPR quicker or were there when she collapsed. Guilt is a motherfucker. The autopsy revealed that during the CPR, she suffered 3 cracked ribs. I was told that that was not unusual and had no role in the eventual outcome. So in closing, the last thing I saw before they zipped up the bag on our living room floor was my little Boston Terrier Willy (which she bought from a breeder) licking her forehead. Makes you wonder If he knew. So the point of this, even though she had all those blockages, she never had any previous pains, shortness of breath, pains in her jaw etc. Absolutely no symptoms In other words, undiagnosed heart disease which resulted in her passing is just another example of undiagnosed heart disease causing sudden death. Sorry for being so long winded about this, but its just something I had to share. In an odd way, it seemed somewhat therapeutic. |
