VCRs were going strong then, I still used one regularly until 2004 when cheap DVD recorders were able to get somewhat decent quality. That said, recording the news isn't exactly commonplace. People would record for time shifting purposes, or if they're hoarders and record everything, but that latter group probably wouldn't bother putting things up on Youtube.

I will add that if loony places like Infowars haven't been able to dig up documentation of such celebrations in NJ, there might not exist any.
