Bill---I have a theory as to why Trump won the election last year and it flies in the face of consensual wisdom. Almost always you go with the devil you know instead of the devil you don't when there is some question of who to vote for---that is, if you're even going to cast a ballot.

2016 knocked that belief clear on its ass. Hillary was such a polarizing figure, such a liar, cheat, manipulator, phony and oneo f the most disreputable persons to ever grace our political system that the voters decided to take a chance on the "devil" they didn't know. Trump was not my main choice, John Kasich was, but there was no doubt that I would stick by my party's nominee when I had to consider what the alternative was.

I'm not saying this reasoning is gospel but I'm convinced in my own mind that there is something to that belief.
