The more you owe and have to have all your dues paid in the lower positions before you can even get there. Basically, the way it works for mayors and local candidates (of which assembly is also at the shit tier level) you have to fork over fuckloads of cash to get the endorsement and have to prove your loyalty and footwork to the party unless you want to get primaried out of existence even AFTER paying off. It's at those local village/town levels where the party tests out your ability to raise cash and do them favors that gets you started up the ladder. In MY case in New Paltz, I was pretty much the only republican they had. Nobody else WANTED the gig and were I to have not been suckered, the democrat mayor would have run unopposed. I had some advantages many candidates didn't have going in. I owned the only radio station in town, was well known and liked, I knew all of the local business people because they advertised with me, knew the bank management because they were local, had all the right republican connections. Party wanted me to pay cash to get the nomination. I paid. Party kept coming back to me for MORE cash for this and that. I paid. Asked for assistance in materials and support, "oh, we don't do that and oh by the way, more cash please, no checks." Now New Paltz is a college town. Students could vote. I came close, but no cigar. Republicans did nothing for me, but they sure took my money. THIW. |
