The category of "race" is murky at best, and has been applied to physical traits, ancestry, and culture— it's basically a catch-all term for bigotry that doesn't fall into other categories.That said, the exact definition of race really doesn't matter. The point is that your right to live and work in New York is contingent on the accident of your birth. Granting or withholding rights to specific individuals based on inborn traits is bigotry, so we're really just arguing over the semantics of what kind of bigotry it is. |
