There are too many incentives for low income girls to have kids.FWIW, I'd argue that the solution is to stop making welfare into a program in which you need to be a single mother to make the most of it. In other words, give the same level of benefits to single and married individuals that single mothers would get on welfare for having one child, and you'd probably eliminate some of the single mother problem. Of course, to reduce births to single mothers further, you'd need for them to have men worth marrying, but in many cases, the men around them are either unattractive or unemployable, and even then, you're just dealing with a lot of people who are immature with poor conscientiousness. If anything, get Planned Parenthood to give out long-term birth control methods instead of cheap pills, while stepping up their reminder campaigns to get these women to refill their birth control on time. |
