FACTUAL INFO ON VINTAGE FLEET |
|
Posted by moviebuses on Thu Nov 22 11:24:51 2007 Hey Guys,I would like to know what buses from the vintage fleet could be operated for this service? I am not looking for personal thoughts about why a bus cant....a old bus that needs paint or is non ADA compliant or is not your personal favorite doesnt matter. I am just looking for what will actually hit the streets. This is a really neat deal and if it proves feasible then maybe other transit companies will follow the trend. Look how popular the MUNI F Line is and what a revolution it started for vintage vehicles. Is there a complete roster of the vintage fleet? Please post what kind of bus you are referring to when you mention a bus number as many of us are unfamiliar with the entire fleet. I would assume that most of the NYCTA Fishbowls could go back into service along with the RTS and Grumman. I would be thrilled to fly there and ride them on a Sunday.... www.rts-regionaltransitservice.com |

Since many of them are operational, they keep them at the garages. Just like the transit museum primarily displays only subway cars that are dead in the water. Most of the operational cars are at places like 207 St, Corona, etc. |

"the transit museum primarily displays only subway cars that are dead in the water"That's not true, the Bu's and Arnines are at the TM and those can run. I believe the reason there are trains stored at Corona or 207th is mainly there isn't enough room in the museum to store all the trains. If there was another site for the TM then they could probably store all the trains over 2 museum sites. Examples mainly the Nassau line from Bowery to Canal or the lower level of 9th Av on the West End line. |

I wished they would, Floyd Bennet field would be great, I'm sure there is more than enough space there to store teh buses as well as using some of the currently unused Aircraft hangers. |

In the springtime, on a Sunday evening, I actually saw Flexible 7340 moving under its own power on Richmond Avenue, in the direction of Yukon Depot. It took me 2 seconds to realize it wasn't in service and that this was an unusual sight. I can remember when the blue paint job was the new thing. |

The only cars that couldn't move themselves when I worked there (July 06-April 07) were 2201 (B Standared-wrong wheel set), 8506 (R30-no mate) and 1612C (Q car-no mates). This isn't counting the snow thrower as that isn't a self propeled unit anyway. |

Thier aint enogh room in the museum for new trains.I think the transit museum would be alot better if they display Other Museum trains that been held in the yards for like 3 or more years. they got the same trains in the museum. The same trains as 2006 when I went to the museum for the first time. !!!BRING OTHER MUSEUM TRAINS ALREADY!!! |

Interesting note: At one time the TA considered putting a bus down in the museum. They took one of the flat cars, carved out the bottom so that a bus could sit on top of it without being so tall that it would not clear the tunnels. They actually put a bus on and measured it but it was still to high & would not clear the tunnels on the Culver line & Fulton Street between CIY & the museum. |
