While the background buildings look sort of distinctive, it may be that they've been torn down and replaced with modernist monstrosities, which is a common thing along the B36 route (I'm thinking obviously of the pre-1978 route of the B36, via Neptune). So street view was of no help. |

Found it:Avenue U between East 29th and Nostrand, facing NW. The A-frame building in the right background is gone. The building in the center with the four peaks is still there, occupying the eastern half of the block from E 28-E 29, but the facade was redone and one of the peaks is missing, and that tudor-looking building on the far left is still there, NW corner of E 27 and U, but the gable was refaced. Source: 1940s tax photos, conjecture based on current street view. |

Although the FACCO/Surface C50s did not have the sliding windows, they did have the extra wide front door. I remember seeing them on the FACCO 15 when My mother and I would be waiting for our 2, 3, or 5 bus to Wash Hts and these odd buses (which later found out were Macks) would make the stop and load. Later when they were on the M104, I would frequently ride them across 42 St to get to my cousin’s apt in Tudor City. |

Green & Gray started on the trolleys as the same time as the buses-1947.Actually a PCC car was done in 1946 in Red & Yellow, but that scheme was not chosen. |

No, the center door was wide on the 5thAv/Surface C50s but the front door was standard width. I have at least one picture which shows this, which I would post if I knew how to do that. (How do you post a picture to this board?) I don't doubt that the C50s ran on the M104 in the early 60s, but I remember seeing them on 125th street probably on the M101 in the years before their disappearance. |

Bill: Both the Mack C-49 and C-50 came with the wide rear door. This was done so that they could be converted to ambulances in case of a nuclear attack. The C-50's were 5200-5599. Interesting, but I do know that the super market was supposed to be a Bohack because there were signs there indicating it. I checked Bohack’s history and it mentioned that in the 1960s, Bohack took over several Daitch Shopwell locations. Well, there was one in Wash Hts not too far from the bus terminal and Bohack did not take that one over. It may have been that although Bohack lasted a few years after the terminal opened, It may have been on a downward spiral at that point and declined to acquire any new locations. For whatever reason, Bohack did not open at the GWB bus terminal nor did it acquire any sort of presence in Wash Hts. |

I remember first "discovering" that area as a youngster around 1974 (age 8). My Mom's very close friend lived in the Bridge Apartments and we'd often visit (riding to/from on the Bx36). I know that store has changed a number of times over the years. Once (about 1 year ago) I was heading back out of town after visting NYC for a few days... When I Googled the bus terminal, that retail space did show up as a Marshall’s a far cry from a super market to a clothing store. On the other side of the main entrance was a Carter’s Discount store sort of a competitor to John’s Bargain stores and where I bought quite few articles of clothing but I couldn’t see what’s there now. |

There is photo in nycsubway.org of a twin on Fulton St probably the B25 just west of Bway Jct underneath a Fulton St el train. Based on your timeline and the fact that the Fulton El ceased operations west of Grant in April of 1956, that photo would have had to have been taken sometime before April of 1956. The photo is not specifically dated only that it mentions the possibility of it being 1956 and if that id the case then it would probably mean close to the end of the twins’ service life. |

Looks like the closed the street level bus gates at the terminal. One day when I ave some time to spare and I'm in NYC, I plan to walk through the terminal. I'm sure it's totally changed as is the neighborhood. |
