I thought there was something odd about that. I couldn't picture needing a route to go from one beach to the other LOL.

lol, I used that as an example because there is always someone who says they're going to have a transportation company with all of this service. Ocean Parkway is desolate and a bus route at 10 minute headways would be insane.

What do you think the headway should be? I think if there WERE to be a route, maybe it should run from Freeport to Bay Shore/Islip via Ocean Parkway.

Well, they did reseat those 9300s when NYCT gave them to LGA. I mean sure those seats needed to go, but a lf bus in NYC needs to be 2x1 since people still hardly goes to the back of the bus where there's still room to stand.
The only reason they probably wouldn't reseat the buses is if they have no more seats to take from retired/scrapped buses.

Actually, PART of that information is incorrect!

I recently met a couple of supervisors and operators from MTA Long Island Bus and I asked the question since they all work for that division and BOTH supervisors (from both Mitchell Field and Rockville Centre) told me that:

#1700-1759 are NASSAU COUNTY!

#1760-1839 are M.T.A.! (via The Option Orders)

HOWEVER, as you stated before ALL NGs will remain in Nassau County after the takeover...just POSSIBLY renumbered.

*****Plus NONE of the NGs I saw have what the Orion 05.501 CNG buses have...and that's "OWNED BY THE COUNTY OF NASSAU" but like the whole "Orange Stripe" thing...it's not a big deal.*****

No, If it labels "Long Island Bus" on those Orion buses... Its Nassau County.

Jay Walder stated it that.

Ray's statement is actually correct from what I was told. I did a little investigating. MTA holds the option rights to the lot 1760-1839. Orion is currently in talks with the TA to divert the remaining buses from the option to NYCT/MTAB.

1700-1839 were procure under the MTA Regional Bus Operations, unlike any bus in previous years at LIB. 1700-1759 were specifically for LIB. MTA was under the impression that LIB would remain under their umbrella for quite a while. Obviously that changed. But in the Process, the TA purchased 1760-1839 for LIB under an option they held the rights to.

So in all actuality 1760-1839 belong to the MTA, but Walder decided that all the NG's would be LIB property anyway. So yes, all the buses at LIB are owned technically by Nassau County, but the latter 1700's and all of the 1800's were given to them by the MTA. So the MTA and the feds funded all of Nassau's Orion VII's. Now that their contract is coming to an end, Orion is hoping MTA will take the remaining options, which will be 3G's if the option is exercised. According to people involved with the matter, MTA will likely end up taking the optional buses. Especially now that LIB will no longer be a concern.

It's interesting that people say MTA wasn't doing anything at all for LIB, but if that was the true case, they would have never gotten new buses, and service cuts would have been much worse. It's really too bad that Mangano paints a picture that is 100% false.

Either way, Nassau own those buses as I post it before. Its not that hard to understand when Jay Walder made it clear.

We established that already. He was just clarifying the circumstances surrounding the whole thing. But legally, MTA owns the buses, along with the fare boxes until 1/1/12. At that point the buses will officially be the property of Nassau County, and the fare boxes actually might stay as well.

I can't be people actually believe that Nassau County doesn't own their own transportation equipment, depots and buses. There are in Nassau County therefore there owned by Nassau County. Just 6 more months to go.
