I'm a bit confused. How would the X21 be helping to relieve the overcrowding on the X22, since that's the reason why they wanted to reintroduce the X21 in the first place? Wasn't the X21 supposed to mirror the X22? |

I remember the old X21's terminal was Tottenville. However, in the current codelog in the buses, the X21 reading says "Pleasant Plains - Bloomingdale Road". There's a lot of talk about reincarnating the X21 and the MTA would like to do it ASAP to relieve the overcrowding on the X22 but we can only wonder when it's gonna happen.... |

Why are they terrible? The S40 can't keep up with it's current schedule for some odd reason so by splitting it into two, us S40 riders get better service from both the S57 and S59 instead. If you notice, in every plan the s40/S90 gets the axe! Those living in Mariner's Harbor would have the S46/S96 which is only a few blocks up from Richmond Terrace and the frequent S53/S83 to Brooklyn. That is not a bad plan at all, it benefits everyone and would also take riders off the S44 route to the new S59. The only thing is that the S59 and S57 should just run the entire route instead of having the A/B plan. The S99 makes sense too but it should take a different route, maybe turn down Willowbrook Road so that it can serve CSI & run down to Travis Avenue instead because the S96 already covers South Avenue. |

That x21 routing is useless. No one lives along the stopping part of the route, and for a park & ride that location is not only terrible access wise, but far from populated areas. The other routings here make no sense. Extending cross-island buses to the Ferry will only make those cross-island routes less reliable. The location for that proposed 'North Shore Transit Center' is also horrible. First, it's in a relatively high-crime area; second, it, too, is much too far from the population that would use it, and the buses routed to it in this proposal would actually INCREASE commute times, since it's so far in the wrong direction of travel. The best thing to do is extend the 79, or the 55/56, to West Shore Plaza, via Travis Ave and South Ave. A limited-stop, or a short-turn (at Victory Blvd) 53 is a good idea. |

So shifting the passengers from the already overloaded s40 to the also overloaded s46, and not giving the riders on the portion of the s40 west of Port Richmond Ave direct access to the Ferry is going to IMPROVE things? |

If you notice, in every plan the s40/S90 gets the axe!Richmond Terrace riders west of Port Richmond Avenue won't have service to the ferry. Extending the S57 to St. George is overkill, and no one is going to ride the S53 extension. The only thing is that the S59 and S57 should just run the entire route instead of having the A/B plan. I don't see how this would help the S44, the S44 serves a completely different area than the S44 between Lafayette Avenue & Forest Avenue. The S46 is packed to the gills most of the day like the S40 and S48, and diverting riders to the S46 is a terrible idea, especially when the current routing isn't artic-friendly. The S99 makes sense too but it should take a different route, maybe turn down Willowbrook Road so that it can serve CSI & run down to Travis Avenue instead because the S96 already covers South Avenue. The S99 is also a dumb idea, people in Mariners Harbor use the bus to get to West Shore Plaza, and the only extension the Forest Avenue Limited should get is one to Elizabeth. Extend the S40 to West Shore Plaza instead & give people who work at the Teleport a reason to take the bus. |

This is hurting S40/90 riders west of Port Richmond Avenue, and having the S40 riders shift to the S46 to get to the ferry is going to put a further strain on the S46. |

The MTA could have sent the S54 to Saint George Ferry instead of the S57 seeing as that route needs all the help it can get. Whether it should be combined with the S42 or run along Richmond Terrace is beyond me, though. |

Richmond Terrace riders west of Port Richmond Avenue won't have service to the ferry. Extending the S57 to St. George is overkill, and no one is going to ride the S53 extension. The S46 is close enough to Richmond Terrace west of Port Richmond Ave and runs alot more frequent than the S40. The S59 alone won't be enough to handle Richmond Terrace because of the length of the route and I don't know what would make you think no one would ride an S53 extension. The S44 won't be the only the bus that runs to the SI Mall on the north shore, and the S46 used to run a lot more frequently back in the early 2000s. They could always add more service to the S46 after the S40 is gone. |

The S59 alone won't be enough to handle Richmond Terrace because of the length of the route and I don't know what would make you think no one would ride an S53 extension. The S40 doesn't run frequently enough, which is why even with the huge crowds it gets, I don't believe that it's living up to its full potential combined with other factors. The S40 provides relief to the S46 west of Port Richmond Avenue, because it brings passengers to the ferry more quickly than the S46. Taking away the S40 option from these riders and shoving them on the slow, artic-incompatible S46 is a disaster waiting to happen. I believe that this is also part of the reason why the S76 was kept, the S74 could probably only handle the additional riders on weekends. The S44 won't be the only the bus that runs to the SI Mall on the north shore, and the S46 used to run a lot more frequently back in the early 2000s. They could always add more service to the S46 after the S40 is gone. More houses are closer to the S44 than they are to Richmond Terrace, plus there's not as much demand on Richmond Terrace east of Port Richmond Avenue as there is west of it, it's why the S90 Limited Service was extended to South Avenue. |

That's true but when the S40 runs every 15 minutes the buses are a lot emptier. When it's every 20 like it is now, everything falls apart. At least with the S59 & S57, the MTA could get away with running those 2 buses every 15 minutes and the buses will still have crowds. And the s53 has the shortest headways on Staten Island so that is not a problem as you make think it is. |
